Private Green Bay beaches in Nicolet Drive backyards
Stretching along Green Bay’s coastline, Nicolet Drive is a serene and private getaway along the water. Houses here border the shoreline, with private docks jutting out into the water and anchoring residents’ personal boats. “People like it because they can have their own piece of beach,” says Green Bay resident and Realtor Becky Buckland with Coldwell Banker. “Some of it is sandy, and some is rocky.” While Nicolet Drive itself is a two-way thoroughfare running west toward downtown Green Bay, residents can enjoy the quiet of living between the water and the area’s more rural settings, with cornfields on the other side of the drive. Shopping and dining might be further for Nicolet Drive residents than other Green Bay neighborhoods, but people here enjoy the quiet life full of gardening and aquatic recreation.

Boat ownership is high in Nicolet Drive, with everything from sailboats, ski boats and fishing boats. “Or you can zip to a different part of Green Bay,” Buckland says. Also along the shoreline, Joliet Park features a rocky slate beach where people can drop a fishing line, though this park is also a popular destination for watching Green Bay’s vibrant sunsets. Local organizations are currently working on restoring the shoreline and reef to improve the environment and the visitor experience. By the elementary school, Red Smith Park is 24 acres of athletic facilities and recreational space with tennis courts, soccer fields and a hockey rink in the winter. In the warmer months, kids flock to the splash pad to cool off. For those with a green thumb, Church Road Community Garden is open from May to October, allowing people to rent plots of different sizes to grow flowers and produce.

Nicolet Drive's older cottages and newer custom builds
Nicolet Drive features a mix of cottages and ranches selling between $350,000 and $550,000, and custom builds selling for closer to $1.1 and $1.2 million. “If you live on the Bay, more of the homes are upscale,” Buckland says. “In the 40s, 50s and 60s, there were a lot of cottages there. There are still the cottages, but a lot of it is being torn down and replaced with luxury homes.” Homes along the water feature private docks and beachfront, where residents can access the water as they wish. On the opposite side of Nicolet, many houses sit on a slight hill, so occupants can still get bay views from their homes.
