Walkable and convenient Green Bay suburb
Oak Grove is a quiet Green Bay suburb that buyers turn to for its accessibility. Parks and trails overlooking the meandering East River, a community elementary school, and longtime staple eateries are all within walking distance of midcentury homes situated on heavily forested streets. “You’re close to nature without having to pay the premium for some larger, more rural properties, you’re a few minutes away from shopping centers, and being on the east side of Green Bay puts you closer to Bay Beach Amusement Park, which is one of the biggest highlights of the city,” says Jennifer Dittmann, the owner of Providence Real Estate.

20th-century homes line Oak Grove's wooded streets
A drive along the tree-shaded residential streets reveals houses built between the early to mid-1900s. Ranch homes, bungalows and the occasional National-style home with front porches and one-car garages are listed between $200,000 and $235,000. Many houses have undergone recent renovations, including new flooring or a fresh coat of paint. Front lawns are small, but homeowners take full advantage of the space with manicured gardens.

Scenic walks along the East River Trail
Accessibility to the East River Trail off East Mason Street allows locals to walk or bike through Green Bay and neighboring communities like Allouez. The pathways also wind through multiple parks edging the river. Joannes Park is the largest among them, packed with plenty for locals to do. Skaters can test new tricks on the park’s ramps and bowls as kids run around on the nearby playground. During the summer, the park gets busier as the Green Bay Bullfrogs collegiate league team hosts home games there, and the gates to the Joannes Aquatic Center open for the season. It features a heated pool, towering water slides, splash zones and sand volleyball courts. St. Philip Park sits in the heart of the neighborhood, making it walkable from every home. Locals can venture to the playground, basketball or tennis courts for fresh air. Just 3 miles north, thrill seekers have their fill of fun at Bay Beach Amusement Park, a fixture in Green Bay for more than 130 years. The longtime staple is known for its low prices; some rides only cost 25 cents. With Lambeau Field less than 5 miles west of the neighborhood, locals can join the thousands of fans filling the stands on Sundays to cheer on the Green Bay Packers.

With Main and East Mason streets lining the neighborhood’s eastern and western ends, big box stores and local restaurants are within walking distance. Though it looks small and unassuming from the outside, Cranky Pat’s has become a go-to local spot for its wood-fired, thin-crust pizza piled high with toppings. Julie’s Café keeps regulars coming back for its old-school vibe and hearty breakfast platters. While there is a Pick ‘n Save off Main Street, many locals make the nearly 2-mile drive to the East Town shopping center. “It has taken several years for this mall to get going, but now it’s in its prime and has all your chain stores and restaurants you could need,” says Amy Truttman, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker. Along with an ALDI, the shopping complex features familiar names like Kohl’s, Bath & Body Works and PetSmart.
