A small Green Bay suburb with daily amenities a short stroll away

Centered around convenience, the Green Bay Community of Wilder Park is home to East Town, the area’s only traditional shopping mall, as well as a public and private school, each within walking distance of most homes. Here, locals don’t have to go far to enjoy the many restaurants along East Mason Road or the happenings of downtown, which sits 5 miles northwest. Access to these amenities, paired with main throughways directly to the east and west, allows Wilder Park residents to enjoy amenities close to home and easily commute to surrounding areas.

The homes of Wilder Park

While driving through the neighborhood, it’s common to see a neighbor taking the pup for a morning stroll along its wide residential streets. On sunny days, spots of shade sit beneath tall oak trees, which tend to sit closer to the road in front yards. They share their space with two-car driveways, many of which feature a basketball hoop and a landscaped walkway that leads to the front door. Plots here sit between 0.3 and 0.5 acres and include backyards large enough for a pool or patio for entertaining. Its houses showcase mostly ranch-style homes alongside a handful of new traditional styles built from the late 20th century into the early 2000s. Prices start at $194,000 and reach up to $565,000 for a larger, custom-built home.

Morning walks to Wilder Elementary School

Wilder Elementary School, which maintains a C-plus grade on Niche, is located at the center of the neighborhood. “We have several students that walk to school each day,” Says James McClellan, counselor and principal at N.E.W. Lutheran High School, a private school in the neighborhood. “And many walk to and from Wilder Elementary next door.” Following this, students can head to Edison Middle School, which has a C rating and offers an array of student clubs, from an animal club to the National Honor Society. Meanwhile, older students can attend Preble High School. The home of the Hornets maintains a B rating and has an established athletic department, which recently added a new track and turf field in the summer of 2023.

Convenient trips to East Town

Residents of surrounding communities make the drive to East Town, Green Bay’s only traditional shopping mall for miles. However, Wilder Park residents are within walking distance, as it sits in the neighborhood's northwestern corner. It also works as a one-stop shop thanks to an Aldi next door for groceries. East Mason Road is also home to Mackinaws Grill & Spirits, a cabin-style eatery known for its brunch buffet and live music in its Cabin Bar on Friday and Saturday nights. Similarly, spots like Applebee’s Grill + Bar, QDOBA Mexican Eats and several others are along the same street.

Afterschool play at Wilder Park

The community’s namesake park, which is part of it and attached to the school, is a popular spot for post-school day play. Many go to explore its climbing equipment and enjoy afternoon snacks at one of its several tree-shaded picnic tables. Thrills abound at Bay Beach Amusement Park, a 5-mile drive along North Danz Avenue. Admission here is free, with a pay-per-ride system, where visitors can catch views of the bay atop its Ferris wheel. It is also the site of Elvis’ once favorite roller coaster, the Zippin Pippin.

Green Bay's Saturday Farmers Market

From late May through late October, downtown Green Bay hosts the bustling annual Saturday Farmers Market, which takes place on South Washington and Doty Streets. According to Samantha Mirkes, a Downtown Green Bay Inc. marketing manager, the Saturday market has less of a nightlife feel than the Wednesday afternoon market in the Broadway district. “It’s more of a morning stop, with coffee and breakfast vendors, and it’s a fun and friendly way to get your produce.”

Commuting from Wilder Park

Wilder Park is bordered by Interstate 43 to the east and US Route 141, making for convenient commutes to surrounding areas. More specifically, the latter allows for 4-mile drives into downtown Green Bay, while a 13-mile drive west along State Route 172 carries travelers to Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport. Closer to home is Aurora Baycare Medical Center, which sits directly southeast on the other side of I-43. There are also 7 Green Bay Metro bus stops that line Alpine Drive, Edgewood Drive and Ven Beek Road.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
