Bucolic landscapes yet connected lifestyles await in Greene
Burrowed amongst the vast woodlands of western Rhode Island, the village of Greene takes after its name. Wedged between wildlife refuges and nature preserves just 2 miles from the Connecticut border, the small community attracts homebuyers to its bucolic setting and slowed-down lifestyle. “Greene is nice because it’s rural,” says Holly Regoli, a property manager with HomeSmart Professionals Real Estate. “You get the serenity and quietness of rural living, but you’re conveniently located to many amenities.” Modest New England-style homes dot the country roads that branch off Route 117, which bisects the community and connects to neighboring Coventry and West Warwick. “The beautiful natural landscapes create spacious properties, so you get a lot of privacy and can enjoy being out in the country,” Regoli says. “But if you need to work in the city or jump on the highway, Greene is still close to the things you need.”
Traditional New England home styles in a rural setting
Winding country roads branch out to winding driveways, leading to homes on ample lots, many between 2 and 5 acres, which affords homeowners a level of privacy. Architectural styles include small ranch-style homes, traditional Cape Cods and colonial-styles. These styles can range in price from $260,000 to $650,000. New construction often takes on a farmhouse or Colonial Revival inspiration. These new builds, along with larger homes featuring 2,000 to 3,000 square feet, may list between the low $700,000s and low $800,000s. Lots are also available for purchase, typically between 3 and 7 acres, costing on average about $23,500 per acre. Greene has a CAP Index crime score of 1 out of 10, lower than the national score of 4.
With ample yard space, most homes in Greene are in keeping with the rural vibe.

Outdoor enthusiasts delight in the miles of wooded trails throughout Nicholas Farm Management Area and fishing spots along Carbuncle Pond. Campgrounds and trailheads dot the landscape, including Tillinghast Pond Trailhead and Moosup Valley State Park Trail in neighboring Connecticut. “Residents are also close to other organized sports and local teams,” Regoli says. “There’s the Little League and community sports, like soccer and baseball, through the schools. A local horse-riding place offers lessons, and kids can go into town for other activities like karate.”

Shopping and dining options in Coventry and Warwick
Due to Greene’s rural nature, residents drive towards Coventry and Warwick for shopping and dining options. “You can hop pretty easily to Coventry, where there are multiple restaurants, or head into Warwick and the mall on Route 2,” Regoli says. The Warwick Mall sits about 20 miles east from Greene and houses familiar clothing brands and department stores like Nordstrom Rack and Macy’s. Additional shopping plazas along Route 2 include Warwick Center and Midland Commons, clustered with big-box retailers, department stores and grocery stores like Trader Joe’s and Market Basket. Dining options are scattered throughout Warwick, ranging from fast-casual chains to elevated eateries like The Brook Kitchen & Bar located in the Loom Hotel, where the menu is highlighted by fresh seafood served in an intimate setting overlooking the Pawtuxet River.
