One element of life in Friendly Lakes that draws homebuyers is its proximity to shopping that covers virtually all the everyday necessities. The New Garden Crossing shopping center sits in the neighborhood’s northeastern corner. Here, shoppers can find Marshalls and Lowe’s Foods, as well HomeGoods and several chain restaurants. Just across New Garden Road is Jefferson Village Shopping Center, home to a range of retailers, restaurants and other services. Target, Michaels and Bath & Body Works are some of the well-known stores in Jefferson Village, which is also home to Fresh Market and family-owned Ichi Sushi, which boasts a sleek, modern interior. Completing the shopping trifecta, Garden Creek Center is located directly north of the neighborhood. There, shoppers will find a Harris Teeter and multiple chain restaurants, as well as an AFC Urgent Care for quick medical care.

Guilford County Schools are rated B-plus by Niche. Students may attend Jefferson Elementary, rated B and Western Guilford Middle, rated C-plus. Western Guilford High, rated B, offers an AP Capstone Diploma; this requires completing AP Research, an AP Seminar and passing four Advanced Placement exams. Alternatively, The Early College at Guilford, rated A-plus, is ranked as Niche's No. 1 Best Magnet High School in North Carolina and as the best high school in the state by U.S. News and World Report. Here, qualified high schoolers can earn college credit from Guilford College, a nearby private liberal arts school. New Garden Friends School, rated A-minus, is a private option serving prekindergarten through twelfth grade.

Spotting wildlife in and around Price Park
Although Friendly Lake and the neighborhood ponds do not allow public access, residents can head to nearby Price Park for outdoor recreation. Price Park's primary feature is a walking path that loops through a dense patch of woods, where deer, birds and other wildlife roam. The Price Park Butterfly Garden is on the grounds of the Kathleen Clay Edwards Family Branch of the Greensboro Public Library; spring and summer are peak times for spotting butterflies and taking photos. Inside the library, patrons can access the internet on any of its 25 Microsoft Office-equipped computers, and younger children can attend storytimes to hear their favorite books come to life. When it comes to indoor recreation, residents can work out at ISI Elite Training while kids bounce off excess energy at Sky Zone Trampoline Park.
