An established community in a commuter-friendly location
Just north of Interstate 40 in Greensboro is the established suburban community of Hunter Hills, which offers proximity to downtown as well as to parks and churches. Residential streets curve past well-maintained, green lawns and private, paved driveways. In the spring, bright pink azaleas and dogwood blooms add pops of color to the neighborhood. The Greensboro Complex and malls are just a short distance away. “The area is close to so much, but it’s a nice break from downtown,” says Roger Pitney, who has lived in Greensboro since 1988. “Many industries are moving to the Greensboro area, which means residents have access to several employment opportunities as well.”

Many Hunter Hills homes were built in the 1950s and 1960s
Many of the homes in Hunter Hills were constructed in the 1950s and 1960s, though there are a few newly constructed residences available as well. “Some of these houses originally belonged to mill workers. Now their kids have inherited their parents’ old places, and some are renovating, while others are tearing down and building homes that suit them more,” Pitney says. Among the older homes, ranch-style construction with brick or vinyl siding is common, and most have two to three bedrooms and around 1,000 square feet of living space. A few of the homeowners have added small carports, while others make use of paved private driveways for off-street parking. Median housing prices are in the mid-to-upper $100,000s, but the newer builds generally list between $250,000 and $300,000.
