Growing north Greensboro community with promise
Spicewood is a north Greensboro neighborhood featuring shopping centers and access to Interstate 840. Although this neighborhood flew under the radar in the past, the construction of new townhouses and other housing developments suggest that Spicewood’s desirability looks promising. “It’s surrounded by expensive homes, really nice shopping centers, expansive business and medical parks,” says Robert Canner, owner of Robert B. Canner Real Estate, who has lived in the Gate City for nearly 40 years. “It’s an area with lower prices, but it’s surrounded by quality, making buying a home there a really good investment.”
Cottages, townhouses and New Traditionals
Spicewood’s street layout follows a loose grid pattern, branching off Pisgah Church Road and North Elm Street. Minimal Traditional and national-style homes comprise much of the community’s housing stock. “None of these homes have basements. If they have a garage, it’s going to be detached,” says John Nosek, Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway and lifelong Greensboro resident. “Homes’ building material includes brick, vinyl and sometimes aluminum siding.” Other homes follow two-story New Traditional designs with brick and vinyl facades and attached two-car garages. Smaller homes tend to sell for between $150,000 and $250,000, while New Traditionals go from $250,000 to $350,000. Remodeled homes can sell for higher prices. “It’s a place I would take people who want a nice home with good investment potential,” Canner says. “If you buy and invest, you’re going to make money.” A few townhouse communities like Finley Ridge and Hyde Park branch off Pisgah Church Road. Prices typically run from $200,000 to $400,000, though end units can get up to $500,000.
