Wendover Place
Apartment complexes, condos and townhouses
Wendover Place is populated by apartments, condos and townhouses. Most are arranged in sidewalk-lined cul-de-sacs, lending this community of multifamily homes more of a neighborhood feel. Scattered trees along the small townhouse lawns and large parking lots provide some shade. A little more than half of residents in Wendover Place own their homes, and certain areas offer shared amenities such as playgrounds. Condos typically list between $100,000 and $190,000, while townhouses can be priced from $110,000 to $225,000.Major national retailers with local and chain eateries
This neighborhood is tucked behind a sprawling retail center where Interstates 73, 40 and 840 all meet. Between the Wendover Place shopping complex and the surrounding strip malls, residents can grab groceries from Target or Walmart and stock up on wholesale goods at Sam’s Club or Costco. Other big-box stores include Dick’s Sporting Goods, Kohl’s, Home Depot, Hobby Lobby and more, covering a wide range of shopping needs. “I do all my shopping over there,” says Tiffany Clark, a Realtor with Lewis & Clark Realtors. “There’s a bowling alley, Spare Time, that we go to all the time. And there’s a new Top Golf under construction just a couple miles away.” Chain restaurants and fast-food drive-thrus are abundant here, though a handful of local eateries can be found. Big Burger Spot is a casual stop-in with a selection of signature burgers, sandwiches and fries, and Cooper’s Ale House is frequented for brews, specialty cocktails and pub fare like pizza and wings. Jake’s Diner serves classic, homestyle American plates and is especially popular for breakfast, while Kabuto Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar offers fiery tableside hibachi and a large selection of specialty sushi rolls.Students can explore career pathways at Southwest Guilford High
Students can attend Guilford County Schools. Florence Elementary scores a B-plus from Niche, Southwest Guilford Middle earns a B and Southwest Guilford High receives a B-minus. The high school is known for its strong athletics, with state championship titles across sports such as volleyball, indoor track and basketball. Students can also explore career pathways that range from game art design to entrepreneurship to healthcare.Small wooded parks provided an outdoor reprieve
Families head to Big Tree Park for everyday recreation on the playground. This serene little neighborhood park is tucked away in the woods along South Buffalo Creek, roughly 2 miles from Wendover Place. Less than 3 miles south is Griffin Recreation Center and Park, equipped with a basketball court and fitness center for rainy-day workouts. The rec center hosts programs ranging from adult fitness classes to senior game nights and after-school care for kids. Outside, there’s a playground and dog park beneath the shade, connected by paved walking trails through the woods.Close to highways, with easy access to Piedmont Triad International Airport and nearby hospitals
Wendover Place lies at one of the city’s major crossroads, with Interstate 73, Interstate 40 and Interstate 840 all converging right at the edge of the neighborhood. Commuting around the Piedmont Triad is straightforward from here. Not only is Downtown Greensboro roughly 10 miles away, but Winston-Salem is about 20 miles west and High Point is 11 miles south. Piedmont Triad International Airport is an 8-mile drive up I-840, and Cone Health MedCenter High Point is 5 miles southwest for emergency and specialized medical attention. “It’s a great location for getting to work or the airport. You can access basically the entire Piedmont Triad once you hop on Guilford College Road,” Clark says.
