Youngs Mill
A diverse selection of homes, from small to large
Subdivisions differ across the neighborhood. Sharon Donna Drive offers spacious new traditional builds with stately brick facades, steeply sloped roofs reminiscent of French Country homes, and 2,500 to 4,000 square feet of interior space. On the other hand, the new traditional homes found in Gramercy Park West tend to have a mix of vinyl and brick siding and offer closer to 2,500 square feet of interior space, sitting on quarter-acre lots. And then there are streets like Chippendale Trail, lined with smaller ranch-style homes enmeshed in the forest. Other subdivisions have a mix of ranch-style and new traditional homes, with the occasional Colonial Revival, split-level or Cape Cod. Recently built subdivisions tend to include sidewalks. Aside from the midcentury ranchers, the neighborhood is on the newer side, with a median construction year of 2001. Detached home prices typically range from $200,000 to $600,000, depending on square footage. Townhouses are on the neighborhood's south end along Chestnut Bend Drive. They usually go for between $250,000 and $350,000.Career technical education programs in the Guilford County School District
George C. Simkins Jr. Elementary is located on the neighborhood's west side and gets a C-plus rating from Niche. Southeast Guilford Middle is B-rated, while Southeast Guilford High receives a B-plus. These two schools are both 6 miles south. Southeast Guilford High is the first and only high school in Guilford County to offer SparkLab, a class which introduces students to high-tech career fields through the completion of online units, internships or virtual sessions with professionals and experts. North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, a historically black university, is 6 miles west, and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro is 7 miles west.Proximity to employers and three interstates
Youngs Mill is surrounded by three major highways on three sides. I-40 runs east and west while I-85 joins with I-840 to form a beltway loop around Greensboro. Most residents are within 3 miles of entrance and exit ramps to these three highways. Piedmont Triad International Airport is roughly 24 miles west. The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital is about an 8-mile drive northwest, with Kindred Hospital Greensboro 5 miles west for extended stays and treatment of chronically and critically ill patients. “The local Coca-Cola, Wayfair and Publix warehouses on the east side are huge employers for residents in the Youngs Mill area,” says Hannah O’Neal, the property manager at the nearby Innisbrook Village Apartments, adding that many residents move here specifically for these jobs. “The talk right now is that a Chewy warehouse is being built soon, which will add a lot of additional opportunities for employment.”Adventures at Aydelette Lake and nearby parks
Within the neighborhood is Aydelette Lake, a popular spot for fishing. However, only waterfront homes have access. Residents of Trinity Lake can visit the HOA’s clubhouse, pool and racket courts by the south end of Aydelette Lake. Barber Park, a few miles to the northwest, spans some 100 acres, sporting basketball courts, a baseball diamond, paved walking trails, and an 18-hole disc golf course. Children enjoy the park’s playground and “sprayground,” a splash pad open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Gateway Gardens is across the street from Barber Park and is one of the most popular outdoor destinations in Greensboro, featuring colorful art sculptures of fruits and animals, a playground, and a rain garden. Forest Oaks Country Club, 5 miles to the south, invites members to play 18 holes of golf, swim in the pool or exercise at the fitness center.Shopping and dining along I-40 and three floors of retailers at Four Seasons Town Centre
Food Lion and Walmart Neighborhood Market are 5 miles west, next to a row of fast-food eateries such as Wendy’s and Taco Bell. Four Seasons Town Centre is a 9-mile drive down I-40 and offers three floors of retailers. The mall hosts 140 stores, including Dillard’s and JCPenney. Pascali’s Pizza Corner serves up whole pies and slices, as well as pasta, subs and Italian fare. More restaurants and local retail shops and boutiques can be found 7 miles away in downtown Greensboro.Celebrating the solstice
The Greensboro Summer Solstice Festival celebrates the longest day of the year with live music and performances and a ton of local vendors. The event takes place at the Greensboro and Lindley Park on the summer solstice, which usually occurs in late June.
