A mix of suburban and rural

Greenville is a modernized village in southwest Smithfield, Rhode Island. The housing in Greenville is characterized by its condensed suburban residences in the village's interior and homes with large acre lots on the outer edges of the enclave. Several undeveloped lots are also for sale around town. 5-year owner and broker of Long Realty, Gregory Coupe, says, "Residents appreciate that there's a mix of suburban and rural environments within town."

Ranch-styles and split-levels from the 1950s to today

A drive through Greenville reveals its many ranch-styles and split-level colonials with occasional saltbox homes, mostly built from the 1950s through the 1990s; homebuyers can also find newer constructions on the market built within the last ten years. Single-family homes in Greenville range from $250,000 to $700,000. Prices vary depending on the lot size and square footage of the houses. Streets are grid-patterned for most residential areas, with occasional cul-de-sacs branching off from main roads. Most homes come with straight driveways and attached garages.

Parks for birdwatches and foliage enthusiasts

Ken Weber Conservation Area is a wildlife preserve with a mile-long loop trail that offers picturesque views of Cascade Falls under shady New England foliage. Powder Mill Ledges Wildlife Refuge is another park managed by the Audubon Society of Rhode Island with multiple walking trails. Birdwatchers during warm seasons can glimpse owls, herons and hawks. Deerfield Park has tennis and basketball courts, a paved loop walking trail, and two separate playgrounds catering to different age groups of children. The Smithfield Senior Center is also located within Deerfield Park.

Shopping districts with a lot to offer

Multiple shopping districts are centered within the southeast corridor of Greenville on either side of Putnam Pike; there's Apple Valley Mall, Smithfield Commons, and The Crossing at Smithfield. From these stocked malls, residents can get groceries at Stop & Shop or browse Target, Kohl's and Home Depot. As far as dining, Bree's Deli is a sandwich shop serving everything from Italian grinders to meatball heroes and chicken salad subs. Chelo's Hometown Bar & Grille also offers New England clam chowder, seasonal cocktails and lobster rolls for a night out. Smithfield Municipal Ice Rink is also available for indoor activities during rainy days.

Easy access to highways and downtown Providence

Coupe mentions, "Greenville is closer to metro Providence, so there's easy access to the highways and the city's amenities." U.S. Route 44 runs east-west through Greenville, meaning residents are only a 12-mile drive to downtown Providence. Newport is a 40-mile drive south, and Worcester is 35 miles north. RIPTA Bus Route 9X also runs along Route 44. It has direct stops at Smithfield's malls to the east or neighboring Glocester to the west. Greenville is a balanced community that pairs the benefits of rural space with the accessibility of suburban living, with its insulated retail and significant park infrastructure.
