Downtown Greenville
What's happening on Main Street
With over 110 cafes and restaurants, Downtown Greenville has one of the greatest concentrations of dining options in all of South Carolina. Considered a foodie haven by many, folks can grab lunch from casual spots like Sharkey’s Pub, experience fine dining at Oak & Honey or sample a beer or two at Fireforge Brewery. For all the everyday essentials, residents can head to their local Publix or, in the warmer months, The TD Saturday Market. Spanning two whole blocks and open every Saturday morning from May through October, visitors can pick up fresh produce, artisan goods, or prepared foods from local vendors. Locals window shop at places like M. Judson Booksellers, Greenville’s go-to bookstore, or ONE City Plaza, with retailers like Orvis and Anthropologie.Hanging out at Camperdown
When the sun goes down, Downtown Greenville lights up. People sit on red-topped bar stools at Carolina Ale House, clink glasses and watch the game. White awnings shade newly developed establishments like Camperdown, the go-to for twenty-somethings and young professionals. Here, murals and string lights surround trendy spots like Carmella’s Café and Dessert Bar and Juniper’s, a rooftop restaurant featuring stunning views of Greenville’s skyline. Various venues offer diverse entertainment options, from stand-up and open mic nights at The Comedy Zone to concerts and symphonies at the iconic Peace Center.Arts and culture at Heritage Green
Downtown Greenville embraces the arts, evidenced by the many statues and murals peppered throughout the city. But Heritage Green, just a short walk from Main Street, elevates the city’s artistic experience. Here, people ponder paintings at the Greenville County Art Museum, kids enjoy 80,000 square-feet of dedicated educational play spaces at The Children’s Museum of the Upstate and arts enthusiasts catch shows at the Greenville Theatre. Also in the area, there’s the Greenville County Library, the Upcountry History Museum and the Signal Music Museum.Greenville's backyard
There’s a waterfall in the middle of Downtown Greenville – and it was hidden for more than 40 years, obscured by the four-lane Camperdown Bridge. Revitalization plans began in the 1970s and were fulfilled in 2004 with the creation of Falls Park on the Reedy, a 32-acre green space and garden. Seamlessly blending with the surrounding urban landscape, Falls Park on the Reedy is accented by The Liberty Bridge. An engineering marvel suspended by cables, the bridge seems to float above the river, providing pedestrians with scenic views. Locals can also access the park’s luxury hotel, The Grand Bohemian Lodge, or the 22-mile Swamp Rabbit Trail, which Kassab says is a big draw for locals. “People love to live Downtown because you’re just minutes from the trail.”Luxury condos and single-family homes
Housing in Downtown Greenville consists primarily of condo options. Older properties typically cost between $400,000 and $600,000, whereas newer developments, like those located in Camperdown or a similar mixed-use facility, typically start around $900,000 and can reach price points upwards of $2 million. In the northern part of the neighborhood, single-family homes line two-lane roads. These are modest properties, typically no more than four-bedrooms with small yards and sidewalks in front of them. Common styles include quaint bungalows, Colonial Revival and ranch-style properties that start around $500,000 and can reach the low millions.A's for Greenville's schools
Students can attend A.J. Whittenburg Elementary School, Greenville Middle Academy or Greenville Senior High Academy, all three of which receive A-minus or higher from educational review site, Niche. Greenville Senior High Academy offers upperclassmen the opportunity to participate in an early college learning program through which students can take college-level courses.Getting around Downtown
A hub for many employers, commuters can walk, drive or take the Greenlink Transit bus to get where they need to be. Sports fans appreciate the neighborhood’s proximity to Fluor Field, home of The Greenville Drive Minor League Baseball team, and the Bon Secours Wellness Arena, where the Swamp Rabbits hockey team hosts their games. In case of emergency, St. Francis Downtown Hospital is about 2 miles south. And when it’s time to fly, The Greenville-Spartanburg Airport is about 15 miles northeast.
