A small, wooded area outside the city
Surrounded by highways and major roads on all sides, Greenville’s Highway 14 Area is a small segment of housing ten miles outside the central city. Retirement villages, apartment complexes and cul de sacs wind their way through the wooded South Carolina landscape. On the north and south end are various retailers and restaurants for locals’ convenience. A handful of man-made lakes and a park occupy the space in between the residential streets, making the most of this seemingly out-of-the-way neighborhood.
Casual and fine dining
Despite being one of Greenville’s smallest areas, locals have a few dining options. For a sit-down meal, folks can reserve a table at California Dreaming. This American restaurant has multiple South Carolina locations, but that doesn’t detract from the uniqueness of the experience. Plates like seafood nachos, Carolina trout and blackened chicken pasta are sure to excite. Down the road is Hans & Franz Biergarten, a German-inspired pub serving Bavarian food and beer. Folks can take a seat on the wooden benches, have a pint in a boot glass and munch on a pretzel while making conversation. Also located on Highway 14 is Sweet Basil Thai Cuisine, serving Thai favorites in a modest setting. Locals will find both a Whole Foods Market and Lowe’s Home Improvement right off Interstate 385.

Ride the trolley to experience it all
Events are plentiful in the city of Greenville. Art is a big deal in Greenville, and residents can explore pieces like “Il Porcellino” and “Mediation” found sprinkled around City Hall. If a calm train ride is more appealing, sit back and relax on the Downtown Trolley. Traveling along Main Street, these trolleys drop passengers near the best attractions. Folks can check out a novel at the Hughes Main Library, open to the public. One unique feature is the self-checkout station. Another is the children’s area, a bright and colorful spot in the library with picture books and small chairs. On the same block is the Greenville Theatre, whose team performs renditions of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Into the Woods and the like.
From modest ranch-styles to stately Colonial Revivals
Scattered across the area are various pockets of micro communities, featuring evenly sized and spaced lots as expected of a suburb. Colonial Revivals are prevalent towards the center of the neighborhood with their brick facades and shuttered windows, ranging from about $275,000 to $560,000. A few outlier examples fetch close to, or north of, $1 million, due to their sprawling five bedrooms and extensive square footage. Ranch-styles are common too, many less expensive than their revival counterparts at just $100,000 on the low end and $383,000 on the high. Prospective renters aren’t excluded, either, with complexes like The Mills Apartment Homes on the southside and Homestead at Hartness Cottage Homes.
Subdivisions made up of large homes on medium to smaller lots are popular in Highway 14.
Cul-de-sac with large homes in communities with one gated entry are prevalent in Highway 14.
