Guilderland is green

Guilderland was founded in 1803 and has a storied history as a textile and industrial town. Now, their town motto, “Look Forward,” reflects the town’s growth and progress, as it is ranked one of the top places to live in New York. Guilderland is focused on sustainable growth, with committees prioritizing the preservation of farmland and open spaces, while accomodating residential lot development. Crossgates Mall provides a massive retail anchor for the area, and the schools are consistently praised. It all contributes to creating a suburban environment that's big on nature and education amenities, but still has entertainment, dining and shopping options within reach.

Colonials starting at $400k

The blend of historic and contemporary is most evident in the housing options available in Guilderland. Most homes are in developments set off from the main roads with houses set back from the street. Homes in Guilderland are primarily Colonials in the $400,000 to $600,000 range, and split-levels and ranches between $250,000 to $450,000. While most houses were built in the 1970s and 1980s, you’ll find some homes that date back to the 1700s, including one historic Colonial that was originally home to John Tayler, who served briefly as NY State governor in 1817.

Guilderland High gets an A

Guilderland’s town motto is perhaps most evident in the district’s schools. Students were originally taught from one-room schoolhouses in the 1800s, but the Guilderland School District has changed with the times. The new Guilderland High School has undergone many renovations since its construction in 1953, including its most recent addition in 2021. “People come here for the highly rated schools,” says Timothy Mulchy, a realtor with the Select Homes Team in the Keller Williams Capital District. Students can attend Guilderland Elementary School, Farnsworth Middle School and Guilderland High School, ranked A+ on Niche.
