Charles Stone Park is a convenient spot for walking
Four laps around Charles Stone Park in downtown Gurley should equal a mile, and Fido is allowed on the trail as long as he is leashed. The park also has a playground and plenty of green space. In summer the most convenient spot for cooling off is the Gurley pool, which is open Tuesdays through Sundays from Memorial Day weekend through the end of July. Swim lessons are offered, and the pool area can be reserved for parties. The nearby Lost Sink Trail is a four-mile round-trip hike through the forested Keel Mountain Preserve, which is protected by the Nature Conservancy. The trail passes a scenic waterfall that drops into a sinkhole. The nearby Flint River is popular with kayakers and anglers.

Busy Highway 72 links to Huntsville
"Highway 72, the main drag, is so connected to everything. Cathedral Caverns State Park hosts numerous events
Live music, vendors and fireworks bring crowds to Charles Stone Park on the Fourth of July, which is the biggest party hosted by the town. Cathedral Caverns State Park, 16 miles east of Gurley and discovered by Jacob Gurley in the 1950s, hosts various events throughout the year including the Race to the Cave half-marathon in March, an annual Easter Egg Hunt and bat-related educational events.
My Brothers Coffee is a local hub
My Brothers Coffee opened its doors in Gurley in 2023 and has quickly become a popular gathering spot. The coffeeshop sells lattes, frappuccinos, housemade flavored water drinks and pastries. The shop also supports the local community, giving shout-outs to other local businesses and hosting a community yard sale. Burritos, fajitas, dinner combos and margaritas are on the menu at the colorful El Coyote Mexican Restaurant. Cristina’s Freestyle Cooking serves authentic Filipino food.
