Paramount-Long Meadow is a country suburb northeast of Hagerstown

Paramount-Long Meadow, located in the northeast quarter of Hagerstown, is a small collection of midcentury suburbs and 55-plus communities that stands between the developing city and the pastoral farmland of Western Maryland. “It’s a cute little town,” says Cynthia Sullivan, associate broker with Sullivan Select LLC and neighborhood resident. “I’ve lived here since 1978. Hagerstown used to be in the Top Five in Money Magazine's best places to live in America, and Paramount is one of the most desirable parts of Hagerstown.” This desirability is fueled by proximity to regional food specialties like the Pennsylvania Dutch Market, a strong school district and a sense of country quietude despite nearness to all Hagerstown has to offer. For buyers who want to rest easy at the edges of a growing market without sacrificing the peace that comes along with a rural community, Paramount-Long Meadow is a strong choice.

Western Maryland homes that owners tend to stay in

Most of the housing stock in Paramount-Long Meadow is made up of midcentury ranch-style homes. These tend to sit on midsized lots featuring front lawns, driveways and backyards with space for entertaining. Prices range from $350,000 to around $500,000, depending on the number of bedrooms. “There isn’t much new development in the area,” Sullivan says. “I have a couple of new builds, but I don’t think that most do. Scarcity is driving value up, and people don’t want to give up good interest rates, so there aren’t many people selling houses.” Buyers are more likely to find new construction ranch-style homes and townhouses in Paramount’s 55-plus communities toward the neighborhood's southern end, where prices tend to range from around $490,000 to almost $550,000.

Just 3 miles south of the neighborhood, locals can enjoy the fishing pond at Pangborn Park before strolling along the walking path, which connects it to Fairgrounds Park, home to the Hagerstown Skate Park, the ice rink, a fitness center and several outdoor athletic fields. Closer to the neighborhood is Fountainhead Country Club, a members-only institution with an 18-hole golf course, a pool, several pickleball and tennis courts and more. “The restaurant at the country club is very good,” Sullivan says. “As long as you go with a member, you can have dinner there. The club really should be a big draw for the neighborhood, but it’s very new.” Paramount-Longmeadow is also just 4 miles from the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts and Hagerstown City Park.
