Briarfield gives residents access to all of Hampton Roads
Briarfield is a neighborhood in Hampton, Virginia, that's close to everything. Nearby shopping centers make errand runs or shopping sprees convenient, while sprawling outdoor spaces allow residents to get active. Various housing options offer potential buyers different price ranges and architectural styles. Plus, easy access to interstates 664 and 64 allows locals to commute throughout the area quickly. “Being so close to those roadways expands your network into all of Hampton Roads,” says Jessica Concepcion, an associate with Re/Max Peninsula who has sold numerous homes in the area.
Outdoor spaces and annual events
The nearly 50-acre Briarfield Park lies roughly in the center of the neighborhood. Little League teams play on the lighted fields, kids run around the playground and people get active on the five tennis courts or the fitness trail. Nearly 150 domestic and wild animals call nearby Bluebird Gap Farm, a public park and petting zoo, home. On this 60-acre farm, pigs and goats live next door to whitetail deer and alpacas. An outdoor stage hosts performers during various events like the Bluebird Gap Fall Festival, a two-day celebration with ax throwing, hayrides, a pumpkin patch and more. The farm’s Azalea Trail offers walkers views of Newmarket Creek and the farm’s large duck pond. The Hampton Coliseum, located just across Interstate 64, hosts everything from monster-truck shows to music festivals. The West Hampton Community Center is also in the area, and it has a gym, basketball courts, an arts and crafts room, and an indoor rock-climbing wall, while nearby War Memorial Stadium hosts the Peninsula Pilots minor league baseball team.
Shopping, dining and entertainment along Mercury Road and Power Plant Parkway
Briarfield is near the multiple shopping plazas and commercial offerings along Mercury Road. In the Riverpointe shopping center, locals will find a Kroger supermarket and chain restaurants. The adjacent Peninsula Town Center offers a walkable shopping and dining location. Visitors can dine at spots like Park Lane Tavern, a spot inspired by Europe’s pubs and taverns, Juan’s Mexican Café & Cantina or one of the various well-known eateries. Rock climbing, an escape room and live music entertain patrons, while various big-box retailers and services make this a one-stop shop for residents. Along Power Plant Parkway, there’s a Bass Pro Shops sporting-goods store, Lowe’s Home Improvement and Rosie’s Gaming Emporium. A significant industrial presence can be found on the aptly named Industry Drive, with manufacturing and transportation facilities; however, these buildings are largely removed from residential roads.
Variety of housing options
Briarfield offers a variety of home styles. Some subdivisions have ranch-style and split-level homes from the 1950s and '60s, while Colonial Revivals from the 2010s or New Traditional houses from the 2020s line other streets. Potential homebuyers can find a single-family home for between $150,000 and $515,000, depending on its size, age and condition. Townhouses can cost $165,000 to $340,000, while condos run in the $128,000 to $290,000 range.
Students zoned for Hampton City Public Schools
Hampton City Public Schools serves Briarfield. Students can attend Aberdeen Elementary School, C. Alton Lindsay Middle School and Hampton High School. All three schools are in the neighborhood and receive B-minus scores from Niche. Hampton High offers over 20 AP classes and dual enrollment with Thomas Nelson Community College.
Getting around Briarfield
Briarfield has easy access to both Interstate 664 and Interstate 64, allowing locals to move around the city and the state easily. It’s about 25 miles to downtown Norfolk, while the state capital of Richmond is a 75-mile drive northwest. A few neighborhood bus stops allow travel throughout the area using public transit. Norfolk International Airport is about 20 miles away.
