Historic neighborhood in the coastal city of Hampton
Victoria Boulevard Historic District – called “Little England” or “Historic Little England” by locals – was originally established in the 19th century as a streetcar suburb with an electric railway that traveled into Newport News. Now, this area is a quiet residential community in the coastal city of Hampton. The area was originally called “Darling’s Little England” after James S. Darling, who laid out the suburb in 1888. In 1984, the neighborhood was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places. The homes here reflect the area’s history, showcasing an eclectic variety of early 20th-century architecture. “This district has a rich history with some of the most beautiful homes in the city that exude old-world charm,” says Realtor Susannah Oskarsson with Abbitt Realty who lives in Hampton.
Early 20th-century Queen Anne and Victorian homes
Victoria Boulevard runs through the center of the neighborhood and is lined with large, historic homes that feature well-maintained and landscaped lawns. Residents can find Queen Annes boasting grand towers and intricate exterior detailing, along with Victorian homes with covered front porches and steep gabled roofs. Also common in this neighborhood are Colonial Revivals and American Foursquares with prominent, central dormer windows and vinyl facades. Most of the homes here were originally built in the early 1900s, but there are a handful of New Traditional residences that were constructed in the past decade. The median home price in this neighborhood is just under $350,000, but some larger properties can cost more than $900,000.
Outdoor concerts at Mill Point Park
“Mill Point Park is a popular outdoor spot, they feature live bands there,” says Jen Denton, a local Realtor with The Denton Team at eXp Realty. In addition to live music at the park’s amphitheater, locals can enjoy waterfront picnics and a pavilion. Events at Mill Point Park include Groovin’ at the Bay and the Hampton Mosaic Festival, which highlights the city’s history, culture and art. Bordering the neighborhood is the Hampton River, where residents can go boating, kayaking and canoeing; Hampton Marina and Dry Storage is located in the historic district and offers more than 500 dry slips and six acres of dry storage.
Grab a slice of pizza from Venture Kitchen & Bar
Residents can go grocery shopping at the Food Lion located on Kecoughtan Road, or head to Best of British for authentic food items from Britain, located in nearby Downtown Hampton. “There are many nearby restaurants on Queen Street; Venture and Musasi are at the top of the list for most popular dining spots,” says Denton. Venture Kitchen & Bar, situated in Downtown Hampton, serves brick-oven pizza, tacos and cocktails in a pub-style environment. Musasi Japanese Restaurant is also located downtown and offers authentic dine-in and take-out Japanese cuisine made with fresh ingredients.
Annual events at the Hampton Yacht Club
“Little England is right near the Hampton Yacht Club, which is a nice feature,” says Oskarsson. On the banks of the Hampton River is the Hampton Yacht Club; originally founded in 1903 as the Virginia Yacht Club, it was re-founded in 1926 as the Hampton Yacht Club and has now become a vibrant social center in the coastal Virginia area. Club amenities include the clubhouse, the Commodore’s Dining Room, the Thomas Brady Sailing Center and The Dockside Lounge. From racing and regattas to casual day trips and annual events, the Hampton Yacht Club is a haven for water lovers.

Alton Lindsay Middle School, a B-minus-rated institution that feeds into the C-plus-rated Phoebus High School. At Phoebus High School, students can apply to one of their five academies, including The Academy of Cybersecurity, Engineering and Robotics.
Walk a couple blocks to Downtown Hampton
A variety of dining and entertainment is just a couple of blocks away; one of the biggest draws of this neighborhood is that “residents can walk to Downtown Hampton,” says Denton. This district is bounded by Sunset Creek, Hampton River and U.S. Route 60, offering easy access to waterways and major thoroughfares that span throughout the city.
