Eastern Harrison is a gateway to Lake St. Clair
Eastern Harrison is on the edge of Lake St. Clair, part of Michigan’s Great Lakes system — even if it isn’t officially considered one of the Great Lakes. “It’s a large boating community, and it offers nice homes with access to the lake through canal systems,” says Steven Edward, a Realtor with Properties Detroit, specializing in Harrison Township. “Most people out there hold high-level positions or own their own businesses, but nobody cares what you do for a living as long as you’re a nice person.” He describes the area as having a relaxed, hometown feel, noting that many residents are snowbirds who choose to leave during Michigan’s harsh winters.
Boat clubs, marinas and a large park by the water
Marinas, sailboat and yacht clubs line Clinton River, which winds through Eastern Harrison. The area's primary park is Lake Saint Clair Metropark, located just outside Eastern Harrison. Spanning 770 acres, the park features a 1,000-foot-long beach, an Olympic-sized swimming pool with waterslides, and an 18-hole golf course overlooking Lake St. Clair. Boaters can launch from multiple ramps within the park. Lake Saint Clair Metropark hosts a summer concert series that’s free to the public, but a daily or annual vehicle pass is required to enter the park. People who stay for the winter head there to ski, ice fish and ice skate.
Homes on canals or the bay for a boater's lifestyle
Eastern Harrison offers a mix of waterside properties, with those on deep canals or on the lake being the most coveted. Architecture varies, blending traditional styles such as ranch-style homes and Colonial Revivals with unique custom builds and sleek modern designs with large picture windows that maximize light and the water views. Lots are spacious, with a median size exceeding 10,000 square feet. Pricing ranges from $172,000 to $730,000 on the lower end and from $740,000 to over $3.4 million on the higher end. “Most of the homes in the millions either have an oversized lot in a premium location or were torn down and rebuilt into something newer and bigger," Edward says. Eastern Harrison also offers a smaller selection of condos and townhouses ranging from around $137,000 to $475,000 and rising to a range of $536,000 to over $1 million. Eastern Harrison holds a CAP Index Crime Score of 1 out of 10, significantly lower than the national average of 4.
Restaurants along Clinton River and the most popular shopping spot
Eastern Harrison’s restaurants and bars cluster around Clinton River, some on the water and accessible by boat. Bentley’s Roadhouse is a laid-back spot for drinks and pub fare. One of the more popular waterfront restaurants is Bumpers Landing. “I can walk in at any given time and I'm going to know 20 or 30 people,” Edward says. The restaurant’s owners recently purchased the longstanding Crews Inn, just next door, with plans to turn it into a Mexican-themed restaurant. Octopus Beer Garden, about 6 miles away, is another local favorite. “They have live music, it’s open to the outside, and they serve great tacos,” Edward says. For groceries, Kroger is located roughly 5 miles away. Edward says The Mall at Partridge Creek is where most locals go for shopping, around 10 miles away.
Where students get their start in Eastern Harrison

Lobbestael Elementary School, which scores a B-minus on Niche, and South River Elementary School, which holds a B rating. Students typically progress to L'Anse Creuse Middle School Central and L'Anse Creuse High School, both earning B ratings. The high school offers a diverse range of clubs, including world languages and painting.
Interstate 94 connects commuters
Eastern Harrison is accessible from Interstate 94, roughly 5 miles from the neighborhood’s core. While commuter options are slightly limited in some ways, they are expansive in others. "You have access to hundreds and hundreds of miles [by water]," Edward says. "You can go downtown to Detroit by boat and watch any of the games and concerts at Comerica Park and Ford Field."
