When it comes to amenities, this neighborhood just north of Hartford’s downtown indeed has a lot in its arsenal. Residents are within walking distance of numerous grocery stores and restaurants and Downtown Hartford and three spacious parks aren’t much farther away. With Clay Arsenal’s large number of multi-family residences, residents can feel more like they’re in the Big Apple even if it’s still 100 miles away. “If you're looking for a New York-type atmosphere where the city doesn't really sleep, where you're close to downtown and public transportation, this is the place for you,” says James Bradshaw, Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices who has been selling properties for almost 20 years. “It's for people who are comfortable living in the city.”
Single-family and multi-family homes
Main Street splits the neighborhood into two sections. Clay Hill is on the west side, named after its clayey soil, and the Arsenal District is on the east, named after the armory which once stood in the area. Hence, the name Clay Arsenal. Most residences can be found in Clay Hill. Colonial Revival and Italianate duplexes and multifamily residences are common, along with townhouses. Single-family detached Colonial Revival homes occasionally enter the market as well. Most residences were constructed either in the early 1900s or 1980s Lots are typically between 4,000 and 8,000 square feet, with chain-link fences and sidewalks out front. Single-family homes range from $140,000 to $275,000, while multi-family ones fetch between $250,000 and $400,000.
