Farming community outside of Darlington
A small farm community around Highway 401, Dovesville offers a secluded area away from the cities without being too far away from the fun. “You can go to the Smokey Mountains one weekend, then the beach the next. You’re smack dab in the middle and don’t have to miss a day of work,” says John Bachman, a Realtor with Brown & Coker Realty, who has lived in the area his whole life. The agricultural area has several farms that employ rotational crop farming to grow corn, cotton and soybeans.
Manufactured homes and dirt roads
Dovesville homes sit off dirt and gravel roads, surrounded by a handful of trees and open farmland. Most properties won’t have a garage or driveway, but some have carports. Otherwise, most residents park their cars on the property where they see fit. Modest manufactured homes are the most common, with a handful of ranch-styles mixed in. While modest in size, many properties come with land – often an acre or more. Houses rarely hit the market, but when they do, prices typically range between $115,000 and $180,000, depending on size and acreage.
There are many manufactured homes located in Dovesville, which rarely come up for sale.
Many roads in Dovesville are not paved and serve as the driveway to local farms.

Fishing along the Black Creek

A wooden bridge crosses the small creek down the middle of the path. Closer to home is the Black Creek, a natural creek that runs through Hartsville and Dovesville for fishing and other water activities. “It’s a natural creek that’s been here for thousands of years and pours into the Great Pee Dee River, the largest river in South Carolina,” Bachman says.
