A community close to Hattiesburg and Petal

Glendale feels secluded despite being just 5 miles from Hattiesburg and Petal. Glendale, a census-designated place in Forrest County, has a mix of rural streetscapes lined with oak trees, pine trees and single-family homes, most of them built in the 20th century. "With Glendale, a lot of people who live there grew up there," says Tracy Dudley, a managing broker at South and Company Properties who sells in the community. "It's an older neighborhood, and housing prices are better than if you're going to Hattiesburg or out west. It's not as busy as Hattiesburg proper." The area also includes a portion of Evelyn Gandy Parkway, a prominent business route that leads to surrounding communities.

Glendale has 20th-century brick ranch-style homes

Glendale mainly consists of long stretches of residential streets without sidewalks. Most homes are single-story brick ranch-styles with driveways and garages. Residences typically have large trees in the front and back yards. "You're looking at older houses most of the time," Dudley says. "There have been buyers who don't want cookie-cutter new homes. They want a house with a little more character to it." Homes in need of renovations can range in price from $30,000 to $120,000. Move-in ready houses are priced between $150,000 and $400,000. Recently, plots of land entered the market between $3,000 to $15,000 per acre. "For the people that have homes close to the Parkway, their property value has really gone up," Dudley says. "The Parkway is becoming very commercial, and they sell by the square foot." Forrest County is a tornado-prone region, and some areas are at risk of flooding during severe weather.

Fishing on Bouie River

Although the community has no nearby parks, the Bouie River is a popular spot for fishing and boating. A license is required to catch fish like largemouth bass, catfish or freshwater drum. The county received a grant in 2024 to improve the Glendale Avenue Boat Ramp, including adding concrete steps and a new walking trail to improve access to the river. Private lands and regional wildlife management areas are used for hunting. De Soto National Forest, a little over 20 miles away, offers seasonal deer and turkey hunting permits.
