The southern state of Mississippi is the birthplace of literary legends such as Tennessee Williams and William Faulkner. Catfish aquaculture farms produce the majority of farm-raised catfish consumed in the U.S. Even though parts of the state are rural, Mississippi offers thousands of great homes for rent. You can be close to the action or not, which is part of the beauty of Mississippi.

Most of Mississippi is part of the East Gulf Coastal Plain. Low hills dot the state, and some of them have been named. You can find the Pine Hills in the southern part of the state. The Pontotoc Ridge and the Fall Line Hills are found in the northeast part of the state. The northwest region of the state consists of the Mississippi Delta, which is a section of the Alluvial Plain, and includes the towns of Greenville, Shelby, and Yazoo City

Known as the "Birthplace of America's Music," Mississippi has been highly influential in the creation and evolution of modern music. These influences are evident in musical genres such as the blues, country, gospel, jazz, and even rock. American art and literature gained many valuable contributions from Mississippi-based artists and writers in the twentieth century. Perhaps you love the ballet or you are interested in American history. Maybe you appreciate a good glass of wine and some fine art. Or maybe you'd love to roll up your pants and go fishing in a lazy river. No matter whether you prefer indoor or outdoor adventures, you will love the span of activities available around the state. Because of Mississippi's rich cultural heritage, there are endless opportunities for getting out and about any time of the year. Fishing, camping, and boating are hugely popular, but Mississippi also has historic cemeteries, museums, and artist's retreats. Whether your favorite activity involves holding a fishing pole, a wine glass, or a camera, Mississippi's temperate weather contributes to the abundance of things to do.
