A close-knit, blue-collar community

Haughton offers residents a small town on a large spread of land just 20 miles from Bossier City and 40 miles from Texas. “Haughton is a very close-knit community where everybody fits in,” says Jenny Spivey, Realtor with East Bank Real Estate, who has been selling homes for 17 years and has lived in the area her entire life. “The neighborhood is a blue-collar community that has tons of acreage, which attracts farmers and landowners.” Major employers in the area include The Barksdale Air Force Base-East, which is 9 miles away, and many oil refineries.

Farmers markets on West McKinley Avenue

The area has a weekly farmers market off West McKinley Avenue on Saturdays in the summer and fall months. Residents look forward to Mardi Gras season in February, which includes many block parties with music, food and art vendors. Entertainment can be found 16 miles away at Regal Louisiana Boardwalk on any day of the week. Hot Wheels Skating Palace is a nearby indoor destination that is also very popular with locals.
