Central Bradford
Variety of housing options and prices in Bradford
Sidewalks line the winding streets of Bradford, and homes are surrounded by mature pine and maple trees. “All of Haverhill has really nice, older colonial-era homes,” says Marcus. Many older homes have been remodeled or upgraded and are in the Colonial Revival, farmhouse, New Traditional, Cape Cod and minimal traditional styles. Homes near the Merrimack River range from $375,000 to $575,000, whereas homes farther from the water range from $600,000 to $875,000. Central Bradford is a large area with various housing options, including Multifamily homes ranging from $600,000 to $815,000. Condos range from $250,000 to $350,000, and townhouses range from $375,000 to $600,000. While flooding can be an issue, the Merrimack River is closely monitored by the US Army Corps of Engineers, and there is a 16-foot-high flood wall surrounding downtown. “We suffered a terrible flood in the early 20th century,” says Juros. “There are now flood control measures put in place by the Army Corps of Engineers, so it’s really well protected.”Shopping and dining in downtown Haverhill
“There’s a thriving restaurant and bar scene downtown,” says Juros. Bar and comfort food is served at The Peddler’s Daughter Irish Restaurant & Pub, where framed photos adorn the brick walls and patches from government organizations hang above the bar, giving the place an eclectic home-style feel. Described as a colorful towney bar by Juros, The Tap Brewing Company has classic American pub fare and beers on tap. For something more upscale, BOSA Coastal Italian sits atop a high rise overlooking the river, serving Italian seafood dishes. In Central Plaza, off Main Street, there’s a Market Basket for groceries. Closer to home, Steampunk Station is a café decorated like an antique shop and offers breakfast and lunch.Ski, golf and walk around Central Bradford

In September, hundreds of people gather for River Ruckus, the music and community festival in downtown Haverhill’s Riverfront Park. The Santa Parade began in 1964 by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and it continues today, starting in downtown Haverhill and finishing in Central Bradford. The parade features community floats and live performances. A community favorite, the Haverhill Farmers Market runs every Saturday from June to October in Bradford, and vendors sell everything from fresh produce to hand-made pottery. “It’s one of the most vibrant and well-attended farmers markets,” says Juros. “We talk about it here in Cambridge.”Commuters use interstates and trains
“It’s easy to get everywhere from Bradford,” says Viven Marcus, a broker with Keller Williams, who has been working in the area for over 20 years. “You can hop on 495 and get anywhere in the Merrimack Valley.” Commuters head south on Interstate 95 or 93 to reach Boston in an hour or less. The Haverhill and Bradford train stations have a commuter line that takes riders into North Station in just over an hour. For transportation within Merrimack Valley, bus stops line Main Street. Boston Logan International Airport is 37 miles south along I-93. Holy Family Hospital is 3 miles away. Churches such as King of Grace Church, Sacred Heart Parish and First Church of Christ line Main Street.
