A "quaint neighborhood" along the Merrimack River
An aptly named Haverhill neighborhood, Riverside occupies a bend in the Merrimack River in the city’s eastern section. Residents in this tree-covered enclave enjoy quick access to a large park, a neighborhood supermarket and a hospital. However, Riverside’s concentration of amenities doesn’t overshadow its quintessential New England homes and atmosphere. “It’s definitely more of a quaint neighborhood,” says Realtor Joe Luciano of RE/MAX Bentley’s, who has family living in Haverhill. “It’s more small, single-family homes, not as much multi-family housing as in the rest of Haverhill.”
Fifty acres of sports facilities and more
“Riverside Park is probably one of Haverhill’s biggest parks, with open space and a trail along the river,” Luciano says. This 50-acre green space is a hotspot for local athletes, with basketball and tennis courts and nearly a dozen baseball and softball diamonds. Haverhill High School plays home football, soccer, field hockey, lacrosse and baseball games at the park’s Trinity Stadium. The stadium opened in 2016 and has hosted the likes of Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth. Riverside Park visitors can also take their four-legged companions to the fenced dog park. About ½ mile down the river, Marianna’s Marina offers docking for hundreds of boats and other maritime services. Local anglers can launch their vessels from the marina for a day of bass fishing. Riverside is also adjacent to Renaissance Golf Club, a members-only escape with tennis courts, an outdoor pool, a fitness center and 18 holes of golf.
