Neighborhood in Haverhill, Massachusetts
Essex County 01835
Newer and older subdivisions with a range of single-family styles
Homes sit on half-acre to three-quarter-acre lots along quiet streets with cul-de-sacs. Ranches, bi-levels and contemporary homes are among the single-family styles built throughout the 20th century until today. Subdivisions in the area feature unique styles and character; for instance, Persimmon Wood along Orchard Hill Road has Colonial Revival homes built in the 1990s. Homes in the neighborhood have a median price of $640,000, with properties usually selling for between $550,000 and $750,000.Outdoor fun on the river and more year-round recreation
The Merrimack River is the heart of recreation in Haverhill. Several nearby parks, including Riverside Park and Washington Landing Park, have waterfront trails and playgrounds. Crescent Yacht Club and Marianna's Marina are among the boating venues in Haverhill, and the town's annual River Ruckus in September celebrates the community with live music and a fireworks display over the water. Salem Street is at the center of even more year-round recreation options. Bradford Swim Club, a members-only pool and splash park, is located in the neighborhood. The club also hosts a swim team and events like live music beside the water. Members of the Bradford Country Club have access to the 18-hole course and clubhouse, which can be rented for private events. During the winter months, Ski Bradford immediately borders the neighborhood on the south and has snowboarding and skiing during the night and day.Neighborhood students attend Haverhill Public Schools
Neighborhood students are zoned to attend the Caleb Dustin Hunking School for kindergarten through eighth grade and Haverhill High School through 12th grade. The schools earn C-plus and B-minus grades from Niche, respectively. The Hunking School opened its new, nearly $62 million, building in 2017. The campus has modern facilities including a media center, auditorium and iClassroom space with educational technology.Salem Street is within commuting distance of Boston
Salem Street is about 30 miles north of Boston's city center. "There are a lot of young people, 30-somethings, and they're commuting. The drive [to Boston] is about 50 minutes, but they have two commuter rail stops in Haverhill, so it's easy for that." Dickinson says. From Salem Street, the Bradford and Haverhill train stations are both less than 3 miles away, and drivers can take Interstate 95, 93 or 495 south into the city. Boston Logan International Airport is also about 30 miles south, and Holy Family Hospital is 3 miles north.Restaurants overlooking the Merrimack River
Salem Street is primarily residential, but there is a selection of local and chain shopping and dining nearby. Roma Restaurant serves drinks and Mediterranean cuisine in its venue with views of the Merrimack River and downtown Haverhill across the way. Main Street has more casual venues just outside the neighborhood, including Heav'nly Donuts and chains like Dunkin'. From Main Street, drivers can also cross north over the water on Basiliere Bridge to check out restaurants, pubs and cafes along Merrimack Street. "There are newer restaurants that overlook the water on both sides of the river," Dickinson says. For groceries, BJ's Wholesale Club is 5 miles west, and Market Basket is 3 miles northwest.
