Haworth is a suburb with quiet, small-town vibes

Haworth is your quintessential slow-paced, friendly small town. With no major roadways, chain stores or industry buildings, it's no surprise this 2-square-mile Bergen County borough has been called one of the top three suburbs in the country by Business Insider. Haworth is home to a red-brick schoolhouse, a one-block business district and only two traffic lights.

Many New Yorkers come here to find larger homes and more land

It's common for New Yorkers to leave the big city and find their new home in Haworth. After starting their home search in neighboring areas, New Yorkers will find that for the same prices, they can get more bang for their buck in Haworth. Here they can find larger lots and a quieter pace of life. Home prices tend to begin in the high $700,000s and climb to $2.6 million. Most houses cost somewhere in the $1 million range. Near the country clubs, residents live in older and larger homes, while other areas features many renovated and expanded residences. Until a few years ago, Haworth only had single-family homes. Now there's some luxury townhomes on the borough's edge. At Lake Shore Estates, you can choose from three floorplans with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a two-car garage and a patio.

Mom-and-pop places serve pizza, southern Italian fare and sushi

The tiny downtown welcomes you with several mom-and-pop shops like an apothecary, a yoga studio and a sushi restaurant. This small block is fixed with lamp posts, sidewalks and architectural charm. Alessandro's Trattoria & Pizzeria, a local favorite for nearly 20 years, is a great place to meet friends, celebrate a milestone or have a quick bite. Alessandro's old-fashioned rustic southern Italian style comes through in its pizza, pasta and traditional dishes. There's also a mini-mart, a couple of doctor's offices and a coffee shop. As you round the corner, there's a post office, a hardware store and a few more shops. There's a Whole Foods and Target in nearby Closter for all your grocery and household needs.
