Horse country in suburban Chicago
The aptly named northwest suburban Chicago neighborhood, Bridlewoods Park, is home to several horse farms and boarding facilities in Hawthorn Woods, about 45 miles from downtown Chicago. “This is the place to be if you love horses or being surrounded by horses,” says Lynn Fairfield, a resident of the neighborhood and a broker associate with Re/Max Suburban. “There is a designated horse trail at nearby Lakewood Forest Preserve that would have been the site of Olympic equestrian events had Chicago got the games in 2016.” The area features a blend of suburban homes on expansive lots in a rural environment where grocery runs require a bit of a trip, but connecting with nature does not.
Homes on at least 1 acre lots in Bridlewoods Park
Most homes in the neighborhood sit on at least 1 acre lots. The village of Hawthorn Woods regulates that those living on lots at 5 acres can have stables where horses can be boarded unless a smaller property has been grandfathered in. Ranch-style, Tudor and Colonial Revival homes sell for between $400,000 and $850,000. While most houses were built in the 1980s and ‘90s, some date back to the ‘60s and have been renovated. The neighborhood's peaceful vibe is reflected in the low CAP Index crime scores of 1 in all categories, below the national average of 4. “There are big oak trees that give some houses extra privacy, and people have planted trees in this neighborhood,” Fairfield says. “Some homes back up to a small neighborhood pond.” There are areas in the neighborhood that are at moderate risk for fire because of a history of fires in brushy areas that spread to homes.
Bridlewoods Park has a number of larger lots with plenty of space for landscaping ideas.
Bridlewoods Park features a number of colonial revival style homes with well maintained yards.

The neighborhood’s namesake park is a 19-acre open space at the center of the neighborhood. A walking path goes around the perimeter, where folks are seen walking dogs and getting steps in. A playground is near a small parking area and tennis and pickleball courts. The neighborhood's Barrington Hills Polo Club is the only nationally recognized polo school in the Chicagoland area where professionals in the sport teach lessons. The LeCompte Kalaway Cup is held here every September, with two matches during the day. The Parade of Hounds is part of the festivities, where foxhounds come out with riders. Wedgewood Riding Center and Foxcreek Stables are close for horse riding lessons or boarding services. Indoor exercise is available at Foglia YMCA with weight rooms, a pool and pickleball courts.
