Scenic golf course community of Coeur d'Alene
Avondale on Hayden is a quiet neighborhood north of Coeur d’Alene that embodies what people enjoy about North Idaho. “You’re cart distance to two amazing golf courses. You have Avondale Lake, which is actually a really good ice-fishing lake in the winter,” says Janna Scharf, a managing associate broker with Keller Williams Coeur d’Alene who has sold multiple homes here. “You can’t have motorboats on the lake, so it’s quiet. But you’re so close to Hayden Lake; if you want to take a motorboat out there, you can.” The neighborhood is a mix of suburban and semi-rural streets, with towering pines and spacious lots.

Teeing off and diving into North Idaho recreation
Avondale Golf Club is one of the main outdoor attractions in the neighborhood. This par-72 course is semi-private, offering memberships but also open to the public for daily fees. The scenic course has waterfalls, mature trees and manicured greens that it claims are some of the best in North Idaho. Close-by is Hayden Lake Country Club, a private course just south of the neighborhood. Also a par-72 course, this club was the first 18-hole layout in Idaho when it opened in 1912. Honeysuckle Beach is about 1.5 miles south of the neighborhood and is one of two public access points for Hayden Lake, the other being Sportsman Park on the lake’s far north side. Residents can visit the beach to swim, fish, or begin a day of boating on the water. Avondale Lake is a private body of water, so the only people with access are homeowners whose properties back up to the lake. Residents can fish from their private docks or paddle around the lake in kayaks or canoes.

Custom homes with pristine lake views
Avondale on Hayden is full of custom homes that allow buyers to find something that fits their style. “They’re all very different. There’s a wide variety. Almost every home is on the golf course or has lake views, so it’s a really beautiful community,” says Connie Nelson, a real estate advisor with Tomlinson Sotheby’s International Realty, who has sold multiple homes in the area. Craftsman, new traditional, contemporary log cabins and ranch-style homes are popular in this neighborhood. Nearly every property is at least a half-acre, with several close to a full acre. Lots are covered in mature trees that offer a sense of mountain wilderness in the neighborhood. Homes up to 2,500 square feet typically cost between $550,000 and $800,000. Larger homes can cost between $750,000 and $1 million.

The rustic cabin-style eatery has craft beer and pub food like burgers and tacos. Other restaurants are further west in Hayden, like Blue Plate Café, a breakfast and lunch spot known for its omelets and chicken fried steak. Groceries are available at Super 1 Foods on Hayden Avenue. Hayden also has a variety shopping options, including Walmart and a large vintage store.
