Small, family-oriented community near major attractions
About 20,000 residents call this home, taking advantage of well-ranked schools, homes that are more affordable than other parts of the state and proximity to NYC and popular beaches.
“It’s very family-oriented,” says Shealyn Casey, a licensed agent with Keller Williams East Monmouth. “The town rallies around high school football.” She adds, “It’s also 10 minutes from Middlesex County, but with less hustle and bustle.”
The close-knit residential township of Hazlet is just 13 miles to the Jersey Shore and 40 miles south of Midtown Manhattan. This community is also near PNC Bank Arts Center in neighboring Holmdel, a destination amphitheater for major concert tours, as well as Keansburg Amusement Park in Keansburg, an old-fashioned summertime favorite with kids’ rides and Runaway Rapids Waterpark.
Catch a concert at the famous PNV Bank Park amphitheater.

Single-family homes at a variety of price points
Quiet, sidewalk-lined streets in established neighborhoods are conducive for walking and bike riding. “Hazlet still has an affordable home pricing structure,” says Casey. This is compared to many other New Jersey neighborhoods where the entry price is closer to $1 million.
Single-family colonials and ranches dating back to the 1950s are most common, but there are a fair number of mobile homes selling for less than $100,000. Townhomes start around $300,000, and single-family starter homes start around $400,000. On the high end, $700,000 will buy a spacious four-bedroom on almost half an acre.
Bidding wars are common and homes stay on the market less than the national average of 42 days. The median price of $530,000.
Homes on cul-de-sacs provide kids a safe place to play in Hazlet.

Well-regarded schools and community-attended sports events
Students start at Sycamore Drive Early Childhood Learning Center for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten, rated a B plus on Niche. For grades one through four, students attend either Lillian Drive School, rated a B plus, Middle Road School, rated a B minus or Raritan Valley School, rated B. Beers Street Elementary School and Cove Road School serve grades five and six and both score a B minus. All students continue to B-minus-rated Hazlet Middle School for grades seven and eight, before finishing at Raritan High School, which gets a B plus. The school offers a Pre-Engineering Academy and Performing Arts Academy along with a strong sports program, including the award-winning wrestling team and Raritan Rockets football team.
Lillian Drive Elementary is on a quiet street behind the high school.
The Raritan Rockets are one of New Jersey's top sports schools.

Parks, pools and the Henry Hudson Trail
Veterans Park is a go-to for its skateboard park, playground and soccer field; next door is the Hazlet Swim and Tennis Club with four pools, a playground, zip line and pickleball courts offering membership and day passes to residents and non-residents. Nature lovers head to the trails in Natco Lake Park, a 220-acre wildlife preserve filled with wetlands that attract migratory birds.
For year-round fun, Urban Air Adventure Park is an indoor trampoline-fueled attraction for all ages. The 24-mile-long Henry Hudson Trail parallels Hazlet, a popular scenic path that attracts all types of exercisers and terminates in the Highlands shore town. Speaking of which, the uber-popular beaches of Sea Bright and Sandy Hook are 13 miles east and a straight shoot down Route 36.
The Hazlet skatepark is a great place to hone your skills.

Some chains and a 12-screen movie theater
Hazlet is primarily residential without a downtown, but it does offer the Cinemark Hazlet 12, a modern space showing blockbuster features. Bowlero is a popular bowling alley with a lounge, while locals hit Neil Michael's Steakhouse for special occasions.
Chains are found along Route 35, which cuts through the middle of town. There’s more big-box shopping in Holmdel and nearby Middletown. For groceries, residents have Shop Rite, Aldi and Lidl in town, and Dearborn Market, an independent supermarket that grew out of a farm stand, is next door in Holmdel.
Dearborn market began as a roadside farm stand that grew fresh fruits and vegetables.

NJ Transit station in town
NYC commuters can catch NJ Transit’s North Jersey Coast Line from Hazlet to Penn Station in a little more than an hour. The Garden State Parkway cuts through adjacent Holmdel. Nearby Route 36 is a main corridor for beach visitors, so summer traffic gets heavy on weekends.
NJ Transit has many routes that run through Hazlet.
Welcome to Hazlet, New Jersey.
