A tight-knit community with convenience and special, local events
The neighborhood of Ridgeview sits just south of Hickory’s Union Square, wedged between US Highway 70 and the plentiful businesses and festivities of Downtown Hickory. But a trip downtown isn't always necessary for activities and conveniences: Ridgeview has its share of those, plus its homegrown sense of community. “Being born and raised here, I love how tight-knit the place is. Everyone may not be related to each other, but they treat each other like family. People get together and socialize, and families are friends with each other. It’s a modern-day community,” says John Smith, a long-time Ridgeview resident. The Ridgeview Recreation Center and Ridgeview Branch Library are known for their programming and events, such as STEAM activities for children and a “living wax museum” that celebrates African American leaders. The neighborhood receives an overall CAP Index crime score of 10 out of 10, higher than the national average of 4. Additionally, Ridgeview scores a 10 for crimes such as homicide and burglary.

Homes on a hill, and at lower-than-average price points
Many lots in Ridgeview sit atop gentle hills, granting some residents views of the distant Blue Ridge Mountains and lending the neighborhood its name. Most parcels span below a quarter of an acre and are well-shaded by mature trees. Sidewalks can usually be found on one side of the road, though residents at times use them for street parking. Mid-century bungalows, ranch-style homes and Minimal Traditional homes are most common, with the occasional New Traditional. Most single family homes sell for between $70,000 and $200,000.
