A beloved annual event is the Hickory Apple Festival, a fundraiser with a craft fair and rock and roll pet show, and all aspects of a country lifestyle. "It's our claim to fame; with a rural town like this, it's important we support our Mount Pleasant Township Volunteer Fire Department," Turner says. Mount Pleasant Township is the place residents embrace their bucolic heritage "People hold on to their land here; we don't want it to be developed, want to preserve the slowness of it all," Turner says.
