Secluded subdivisions in Hickswood
Near the banks of the West Fork Deep River and High Point Lake, Hickswood fuses secluded suburban living with city-side conveniences. “You’ve got trails, parks and a golf course nearby, so all the outdoor amenities you could need are right there,” says Rebecca Heaton, a Realtor with Carolina Heartland Realty, who has 3 years of experience selling in the area. “You have a variety of things to do and interstates close by, but you get the security and safety of a suburb.” Given the neighborhood’s location near Interstate 74 and Highway 68, it’s got a great advantage for commuting to High Point and Greensboro, or running daily errands.

Large new traditional homes with spacious lawns
Tucked within Hickswood are several 21st-century cul-de-sac subdivisions, including Deep River Farm, Barrington Estates and Mendenhall Mill. Each is filled with four- to five-bedroom new traditional homes with stone and brick facades. While the styles are similar, homeowners have added individual touches like red doors, yellow shutters or wooden pillars adorning front porches. The area is primarily residential and has an alluring green atmosphere with mature trees and well-kept front lawns that climb above a quarter-acre. “You’re also starting to see some new development because of the location and the space,” Heaton says. “Some are in Barrington Estates, and there’s a newer subdivision called Austin Downs.” Standalone homes outside these subdivisions along Hickswood Road are typically ranch-style, sitting on more than an acre of land. Prices typically range from $300,000 to $500,000.

Ample trails and waterfront excursions
With the neighborhood just beyond High Point Lake and the Piedmont Environmental Center, Hickswood residents have ample options to get outdoors. The center is an access point for several major nature trails, including the Bill Faver Lakeshore Trail and Bicentennial Greenway, and provides classes to educate locals about their environmental surroundings. A newly developed pedestrian bridge links the Piedmont Environmental Center to the waterside High Point City Lake Park, a popular spot among locals for its swimming pool with a waterslide, boat rentals and a 30-person boat ride excursion. People can also take their kids to ride on the carousel or play a round of mini golf with friends. Golfers can tee off for a round of 18 at Jamestown Park Golf Course. The city-owned course has fairways lined by mature trees, a driving range, a putting green and a clubhouse.

Locals will have their pick of retail and restaurants, with the Palladium Shopping Center sitting 3 miles north and Jamestown less than 5 miles east of Hickswood. In downtown Jamestown, couples and friends mingle over oysters, crab cake sandwiches and Po’boys at The Full Moon Oyster Bar. After dinner, many will head to The Deck for a drink. The bar is open until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and frequently hosts live music. The Palladium Shopping Center sits off Eastchester Drive, also flanked by Walmart, Food Lion and Harris Teeter. The shopping complex houses a Belk and is where many locals will go to catch the latest blockbuster at Regal Palladium. “Since it’s less than 10 miles out, a lot of people will also head into downtown High Point to see musicals or comedy shows at High Point Theatre,” Heaton adds.
