Agriculture and quiet living define Highland Township
Highland Township is a rural community in Chester County, best known for its agricultural presence and quiet living. The sparsely populated community covers more than 17 square miles and was home to fewer than 1,300 full-time residents as of the 2020 U.S. Census. “There’s not a lot of industry in the area besides farming and agriculture,” says Steve Barr, a local Realtor and auctioneer at Barr Realty & Auction Company, Inc. The township was formed in 1853 after the original West Fallowfield community was split up; the name “Highland” was inspired by the area’s slightly heightened elevation. Route 30 runs several miles north of the township and is lined with a growing number of shopping and dining amenities. Philadelphia sits roughly 50 miles away and takes close to two hours to drive to without traffic. Highland Township has an overall CAP Index Crime Score of 1 out of 10, the lowest possible score on the index and significantly lower than the national average of 4.
