Mission Ridge is a new, master-planned community outside El Paso

Mission Ridge, one of the area’s newest neighborhoods, is a nearly 4,800-acre master-planned community offering contemporary homes, as well as quick access to shops, recreation and routes into El Paso. “Horizon City is one of the fastest growing areas near El Paso right now,” says Alejandro Gamboa, a real estate agent with the AlexnAlex Realty Team of Realty ONE Group Mendez Burk, who’s been selling homes around El Paso for over 6 years. “They used to be more separated, but it's developed so much they’re directly next to each other now.” With its location near the border with Mexico, locals can also access Ciudad Juárez, one of the country’s largest cities. “It’s about a 15-minute drive from Mission Ridge to the border,” says Gamboa. “You can either park your car and walk across, or you can take your car and go across.”

Spanish-inspired homes starting in the $200,000s

The neighborhood’s Spanish-inspired homes started being built around the early 2000s, and construction continues today. “They have everything from cookie-cutter houses to custom ones,” says Gamboa. “Whether you have a lower budget or can afford something for a million dollars, you’re going to have it all in the same area.” Properties feature three- to four-bedrooms, as well as attached garages and some backyard green space. Most homes sell for $200,000 to $400,000, while custom homes usually go for $500,000 to $900,000. Mission Ridge gets a CAP Index Score of 3 out of 10, which is just below the national average of 4.

Computer Science, Engineering programs at Eastlake High

Students can start at Horizon Heights Elementary, which gets a B-plus from Niche, before going to Col. John O. Ensor Middle, which earns an A-minus. Eastlake High receives a B and offers a Computer Science Academy and the Pathway to Engineering Program.

Shopping and dining along Eastlake Boulevard

Most of the neighborhood’s shopping and dining can be found along Eastlake Boulevard, including fast food chains and Albertsons for groceries. Mi Tierra Meat Market offers fresh cuts and house-made spinach tortillas. There are popular locally owned restaurants like ELEMI for classic Mexican dishes and The Sushi Plugg, a skateboarding-themed sushi spot. There’s also a Walmart Supercenter 2 miles south and an Alamo Drafthouse movie theater 5 miles north.

Pocket parks, golfing and off-roading

Small parks like Painted Sky Park and Summer Sky Park provide playgrounds and sports facilities for Mission Ridge. Just outside of the neighborhood, Horizon Golf Course offers a public 18-hole course and an on-site pro shop. And 15 miles north, the Red Sands just outside the city offer 21 miles of sand dunes for all-terrain vehicles. “You can spend the whole day there,” says Gamboa. “People go out and have cookouts and drive off-road vehicles.”

Art and Farmers Market, free movies, El Paso events

In the warmer months, the Shops at Horizon host the Horizon Art and Farmers Market, which offers local vendors, food trucks and live music. From June to September at Corcoran “Corky” Park, the city puts on free film screenings during Movies at the Park. There’s also the annual Centennial Lion’s Club Christmas Parade & Tree Lighting Event. Residents can also head to El Paso for their popular events, including the Big El Paso Fair from March to April and the Día de Los Muertos Parade and Festival in November.

Commuting via I-10

Eastlake Boulevard serves as the main road in and out of Mission Ridge. It also connects to Interstate 10, running 15 miles north to El Paso. El Paso County Transit bus route 31 offers stops along the boulevard with daily service to and from the city. The Hospitals of Providence are located 3 miles south. El Paso International Airport is just 14 miles north.
