Living close to downtown Houma
The Houma neighborhood of Acadian, set along the Intracoastal Waterway, offers relatively lower-cost homes near the city center. "The area is being revitalized, so this is somewhat of an up-and-coming neighborhood," says Beau Toups, a Realtor with Century 21 Action Realty specializing in military family relocations. "The city has put significant energy, time and money into revamping downtown Houma." Toups says Acadian's proximity to downtown has drawn more people to the community. Simple houses and apartment buildings make up a large portion of the neighborhood, while shipping companies are near the water's edge.
Multi-colored homes that are single storied are common throughout the Acadian neighborhood.
Residential roadways provide Acadian dwellings with peace and quiet on a daily basis.

A market with homes below the metro average
Many of Acadian's properties have concrete driveways and small front lawns. The residential sections show primarily shotgun houses on raised foundations and brick ranch-style homes. There are also several manufactured homes clustered together throughout the community. A little less than half of Acadian residents are homeowners. "Off the Intracoastal are homes with lower prices [than the rest of the area]. Homes here tend to sit on the market longer," Toups says. Single-family houses range in price from around $65,000 to just over $200,000. The region is prone to severe weather, including tropical storms and hurricanes. Much of Acadian sits within a Flood Zone X, meaning the community has a moderate to minimal chance of flooding.
Most properties in Acadian have smaller lawn spaces and are easy to maintain yearround.
Customized Shotgun-style houses are another popular home style for many in Acadian and present an easy way of living.

Shopping down Grand Caillou and eating along the water
Acadian contains shipping companies along the water and a handful of warehouses. Driving about 2 miles down Grand Caillou Road leads to Rouses Market and Walmart Supercenter. Residents also source fresh, local produce nearby. "The old Feed Store downtown is being converted into a farmers' market on Saturdays," Toups says. The neighborhood has a few casual dining options, such as the local sports bar, 5 After 5. Perched on the Intracoastal, Melvin's Restaurant is a popular spot for fresh seafood and private gatherings. Toups says residents head downtown for more shopping and top Houma restaurants, like Spigots Brew Pub and Cristiano Ristorante.
