New construction built alongside Eastex-Jensen’s historic homes
The Eastex-Jensen market is eclectic, offering everything from brightly painted ranch homes and bungalows from the 1940s to European-influenced multistory properties built in the 2010s. A wave of brand-new residences has swept into the area, consisting of modern builds that were constructed as recently as 2023. Many properties are set against native pine forests, and gated front yards are accented with gardens, stone statues and birdbaths. Older homes range from $200,000 to $500,000, depending on the style and size, while new construction has a steady average price of around $300,000.Hundreds of vendors at La Estrella Flea Market
Most of the neighborhood’s retail options are concentrated along Interstate 69. Shopping in this area includes specialty food markets like Mi Tienda on Little York Road and Fiesta Mart on Jensen Road. The area’s biggest retail hotspot is La Estrella Flea Market on Eastex Freeway, which opens every weekend. The market hosts 200 local vendors who sell goods like furniture, clothing and electronics and offer services like on-site haircuts, massages and even tattoos. There are only a few local restaurants in Eastex-Jensen, most of which are chains. A long greenway along Halls Bayou connects Shady Lane Park to Mary Withers Park and the 500-acre Keith-Wiess Park in neighboring Aldine. The neighborhood has some Ride METRO bus stops along main streets like Jensen Drive and Little York Road, and drivers have quick access to Interstates 69 and 610, as well as thoroughfares like Hardy Toll Road and Eastex Freeway.
