Parks and recreation south of Glencairn

Glencairn residents have access to a community recreation center with a swimming pool, small playground area and a gated four-court tennis complex. Bear Creek Pioneers Park spans more than 2,000 acres next to the flood-preventative Addick’s Reservoir and Dam. Access to Highway 6 and Interstate 10

Highway 6 is a bustling north-south thoroughfare that runs directly east of Glencairn and can contribute to elevated noise levels during high-traffic periods. The highway travels about 6 miles south to merge with the Interstate 10 corridor, where several major energy companies are located. There are no public transit options in or around the neighborhood, so residents are almost entirely car-dependent. Less than a mile from Glencairn is HCA Houston’s Copperfield branch, a 24-hour emergency room open every day of the week. The George Bush Intercontinental Airport is a 28-mile drive away using Beltway 8, also known as the Sam Houston Tollway, which loops along the outskirts of the Houston metropolitan area.

West Point Plaza sits immediately east of Glencairn and features an H-E-B supermarket and Speedy Stop convenience store. Across the street there are a handful of fast-food chains. A few miles north along the highway is a large commercial area with big box stores like Target and additional retailers like Hobby Lobby and Lowe’s Home Improvement. Popular restaurants in this area include Frank’s Grill, a classic American-style diner, and Flor De Cuba, a restaurant that serves authentic Cuban dishes and offers live music and a pig roast special every weekend.
