Energy-efficient homes in Briarmeadow
Traditional ranch-style homes are among the most prevalent and range from $350,000 to $700,000 in price. Recently built contemporary-style homes sit in small gated subcommunities and offer designs intended to be more energy efficient than other local offerings, using features like UV-blocking windows and climate sealing. These homes range from $350,000 to $550,000. The largest properties in the area are situated north of Westheimer Road, are between 4,500 square feet and 5,500 square feet in size, and sell for $1 million to $2 million.Nearby shopping at the Galleria Mall
“One place that everyone likes to go to is the Galleria Mall,” says Joely Trijo, Leasing Professional at Summervale Apartments. The Galleria Mall is a little over 2 miles from Briarmeadow via Westheimer Road and offers hundreds of stores and restaurants. Residents running errands also have many shopping and dining options within the community. Popular retailers include Aldi on the west side of Westheimer Road and the Walmart Supercenter on the east side. Briarmeadow hosts a diverse range of locally owned dining and shopping outlets like Nara Café, a bistro and hookah spot that offers its visitors games like cards while they eat popular dishes like lamb chops. Around a mile and a half away is the Westchase District Farmers Market, where shoppers can find locally sourced goods. “Each Thursday when we open, we have different shops selling different products from week to week. If a customer doesn’t like our selection one week, they can come back next week and there’ll be new options to choose from,” says Sherry Fox, Vice President of Communications for the Westchase District. The busy roads of Briarmeadow
Briarmeadow has three main thoroughfares that split the neighborhood into six parts. Fondren Road splits the community down the middle from north to south and is connected to the other two thoroughfares. Westheimer Road and Richmond Avenue are in the northern and southern parts of the area, respectively. Westheimer Road is where the majority of the community’s shopping and dining outlets reside. “Westheimer Road has all the shops but that also means the traffic during the day can get really bad,” Says Trijo. Richmond Avenue, in contrast, provides the most access to the neighborhood’s residential sections. Bus stops line these streets to provide easy access to public transit.Kayak Buffalo Bayou from Briarbend Park
Rasmus Park is the largest of the four local parks at 9 acres on Briarmeadow’s south side and provides a concrete walking trail, playgrounds, a baseball field, and a picnic space with grills. The 3-acre Briarbend Park is among the most popular greenspaces in the community for its access to the 26-mile Buffalo Bayou Paddling Trail via a kayak ramp. Visitors enjoy the park’s playground, walking trail, and picnic space. In the southwest corner of the neighborhood sits Tanglewilde Park. The park provides another concrete walkway, playground and a sheltered picnic area. Finally, Briarmeadow Park resides on the west side and has many of the same amenities as its counterparts, along with a tennis court.French immersion at Mark White Elementary
Houston Independent School District, rated B by Niche, is the largest public school system in Texas. Mark White Elementary School offers a one-of-a-kind French language immersion program and has a B-minus Niche rating. Briarmeadow Charter School is in the southeast part of the community and offers an A-minus Niche rating along with school uniforms and a 15:1 student-to-teacher ratio. Wisdom High School sits on Hillcroft Avenue and scores a C on Niche.Cheer on marathoners by the Galleria Mall
Every January, Houston hosts the Chevron Houston Marathon, which runs through Post Oak Boulevard, a little over 2 miles from Briar Meadow, allowing residents to cheer on participants as they test their endurance.
