Locals live around 25 miles from downtown Houston, just a few miles south of an expansive greenbelt, with urban comforts on their doorstep. Though malls are slowly becoming a thing of the past, Willowbrook Mall buzzes with life. The shopping center has a modern design from the outside and offers around 160 stores with tons of popular chains like Macy's, H&M, Sephora and more. Tall palm trees decorate the interior of the mall and grow under skylights. Kids enjoy the play areas dotted throughout, families and friends gather in the food court and mall walking is popular on days when its too hot to exercise outside. Across the street from Willowbrook Mall is even more shopping at Willowbrook Plaza, including fan favorites like World Market and Five & Below. This is a go-to spot for date nights since the plaza has an AMC Theatre and popular restaurant chains, including Saltgrass Steakhouse. For nights in, there's a Costco Wholesale on North Gessner Road, Fiesta Mart off Willowchase Drive and Sam's Club on Cypress Creek Parkway.

There are no parks in Willowbrook proper but several are just outside its bounds. One of the largest green spaces nearby is Champion Forest Park, just over 3 miles north on Cypresswood Drive. The park runs along Cypress Creek and offers a large soccer field for community pick up games, a playground for the kids, hiking areas and more. At less than 3 miles away on Jones Road, Matzke Park is an even closer option with another playground, and a sweet little butterfly garden populated by monarchs.

Willowbrook is a what you see is what you get kind of area. "It's so developed already, there isn't a lot of land," says Coldwell Banker Realtor Geneva Carpenter. Homebuyers will mostly find gated townhouses and condo communities with HOA fees here. A few classically suburban areas also exist, but stock is limited. Single-family homes are often over 2,000 square feet and reflect the brick traditional style popular in Texas. They settle on petite lots built to maximize space with over half of the lawn giving way to wide driveways. Circular flowerbeds decorate yards capped by slim sidewalks and wide roads lined by oaks. Prices mostly range from the high $200,000s to low $300,000s in Willowbrook. Condos come with community pools, which is an extra-welcome amenity in Texas. "Our weather is always hot – 80 degrees plus. We get a day or two in the '70s – sometimes we get three days in a row, like at Christmas," says broker associate Jenny Correa of Correa Properties. Speaking of weather, Correa has lived in Willowbrook for 15 years and she says that while Houston is prone to flooding, this area is not.

Willowbrook is a great area to be around, would I would like to be changed is some of the infrastructure around that looks run down and brings the area down, and fixes to improve 1960 traffic.

My family and I have lived in this area for almost 2yrs now. This is our first home since we have moved from California. This area is really good for the young crowd like myself. There's plenty of bars and restaurants to enjoy and a mall less than a mile away. We have a hospital in a one mile radius and a lot of grocery stores as well. Even though this is a great neighborhood to be in, crime is still present. We have heard of numerous thefts taking place in the last few months and that's only our apartment building. Who knows what other crimes have happened in the subdivision close by. Everyday there's a fear in our mind that what if our house is next to be robbed.
