Variety abounds in this corner of Huntington
In Enslow Park, Huntington’s hills come alive with a variety of established but well-kept homes. A network of narrow residential streets zigzags through this neighborhood, dotted with houses that date back to the early 20th century. The landscape here envelopes the 75-acre Ritter Park, one of the city’s landmarks. “It’s a nice, quiet little neighborhood,” says Cindy Legg, a local Realtor with Hood Realty Company and a Huntington native. “You’ve got all types of housing there. You’ve got some one-story floor plans and then you’ve got some bigger houses, especially up on the hill. There are some larger homes that overlook the park.”

Classic architecture styles with brick exteriors
Different streets in Enslow Park offer different atmospheres. Some stretches, like McCoy Road, feel like a rustic escape with homes perched on the hills by Ritter Park. Other blocks, like Neel Street, feel more urban, with houses built closely together on a sidewalk-lined lane. Many of the homes here share classic character, though — Craftsman, colonial and ranch-style options with brick exteriors are common. And many are relatively sizable — the average square footage across Enslow Park is more than 1,831. Houses under 2,400 square feet sell for between $100,000 and $400,000, while more extensive properties go for $400,000 to $700,000.

Frostop’s impossible-to-miss sign guides the way to food
Enslow Park residents have quick access to Hal Greer Boulevard, a thoroughfare lined with restaurants and more. Frostop Drive-In is a popular pick. Part of a small chain, it's sign is unmistakable, a huge root beer mug on its roof. Like the sign suggests, the root beer is a popular menu choice and the restaurant has hot dogs and onion rings on the menu. “Frostop is an institution,” Legg says. “It’s great, and it’s been around for decades. People love it. You sit in your car, roll down your window and they set the tray out and bring you your food. They also have a picnic area where you can go and walk up to the window and order.” There’s also a location of the West Virginia-based chain Tudor’s Biscuit World on Hal Greer, a spot known for its breakfast biscuits. Locals knock out grocery shopping at the Kroger roughly a mile north, on Seventh Avenue.

The park’s fountain is another signature feature, a space that also can be reserved for events. “You have a really nice fountain with stonework,” says Todd Nelson, a local Realtor with Old Colony Realtors of Huntington who has almost 20 years of experience. “A lot of area high school students use the fountain for homecoming and prom pictures.”
