With many homes nearly a century old, West Huntington is an established neighborhood that is seeing renewed interest as new businesses have moved to the area, the neighborhood park received an upgrade and homebuyers and investors are looking to renovate the existing housing. "They have developed and improved a lot of the housing there,” says Betty Sargent, a local Realtor with Old Colony Realtors, with over 30 years of experience. “More businesses have opened, which has helped.” The neighborhood's location along the Ohio River and a little less than 3 miles from downtown means additional entertainment and culture aren't far away.

Classic homes, with life still left
West Huntington’s grid of residential streets contains a mix of single-story and multistory Craftsman-style homes built from the early to mid-20th century that are 1,300 square feet on average. “Craftsman homes are really in demand right now,” says area Realtor Debi Reynolds of the Debi Reynolds Group, who has over 30 years of industry experience. Packed close together on sidewalk-lined streets, properties have lots that are often between .10 and .20 acres. Prices range as houses that need renovation and upgrades sell from $15,000 to $75,000, while those that are move-in ready sell for between $76,000 and $125,000.

Locals can meet at Midway for an old-fashioned experience
This area has several locally owned and chain restaurants, but Midway Drive-In is the stalwart. It has been open since 1939. “Everyone loves it,” Reynolds says. The spot is known partly for its milkshakes, which come in almost a dozen varieties, and carries a bit of local fame as The Food Network featured it in a 2015 episode of “Guilty Pleasures.” West Tenampa Mexican Restaurant is another option in the neighborhood located along West Huntington’s walkable 14th Street corridor, known as Central City. The stretch features other restaurants, like Central City Cafe, antique stores and The Wild Ramp, an indoor farmers market that’s been in place since 2014 and is open daily. Cicada Books & Coffee opened here in 2018 and offers a mix of retail and dining, with a selection of used books and a cafe serving coffee, tea, and bagels.
