A convenient southeast Huntsville suburb
Paved sidewalks trim aptly named streets throughout South Huntsville’s English Village. Along Buckingham Drive and Britain Avenue, ranch-style homes sit on spacious lots shaded by old oak trees. New Traditional-style houses are a bit further west, at the far end of Magna Carta Place. “There’s a community park that kids can walk to at the center of the neighborhood,” says Becky Friar, a local Realtor with @Homes Realty Group. “You’ve also got the Walmart right there on Redstone Road and a bunch of restaurants on Memorial Parkway.”

English Village's vintage houses and well-kept lawns
Most homes in English Village were built between the 1960s and ‘80s. They typically feature ranch-style architecture, with sprawling floor plans and attached garages. New Traditional houses from the 1990s are on the neighborhood’s west end. Throughout the community, lots range from a quarter to a half-acre. Established oak trees and wooden fences provide some backyard privacy, but “most people like their neighbors around here,” says Bob Rogers, a former English Village Civic Association president. “If you look around, everyone takes good care of their yards and the community spaces.” Inside, the homes are just as well-maintained. Some are even updated to feature new wood flooring and stainless-steel appliances. These recently remodeled homes tend to be more expensive than others. Despite the condition, a single-family home in English Village ranges from $250,000 to about $450,000. Some two-bedroom condos on the neighborhood’s east fall within the $125,000 to $225,000 range.
