Ryland
Suburban Neighborhood in Huntsville, Alabama
Madison County 35811
New construction homes with spacious lawns
Over the last 20 years, Huntsville’s ever-growing population has transformed most of Ryland’s rural flat farmlands into modern subdivisions filled with spacious single-family homes. Many residences reflect a new traditional style with sturdy brick exteriors and cross-gable roofs. These newer homes are managed by involved homeowners associations, ensuring sidewalks are kept clean and yards are well-maintained. Throughout the area, some older cape cods and ranch-style homes sit outside planned subdivisions and date back to the 1980s and 90s. Ryland residents enjoy spacious half-acre yards with plenty of room to add an in-ground pool and build a backyard playset. While similar homes in the neighboring Monte Sano community list around $500,000, Ryland’s three-to-four-bedroom homes typically cost between $250,000 and $400,000. Still, some new construction developments can list up to $500,000.Only 2 hours from Nashville and Downtown Bham
Highway 72, locally known as Lee Highway, passes through Ryland and connects to nearby Interstate 565. From the freeway, Downtown Huntsville and the local hospital are fewer than 15 minutes away. Residents can head further southwest on I-565 to access the Huntsville International Airport in about 25 minutes. Just past the airport, Interstate 65 runs north-south, connecting locals to Downtown Nashville and Birmingham in just 2 hours.Support programs for military kids at Buckhorn Middle
Students may attend Madison County public schools, all of which score a B-plus or higher on Niche. Pre-schoolers can begin learning at Mt. Carmel Elementary. Next door, Riverton Intermediate is where students transition after third grade. This school opened in the neighborhood in 2010 to support the area’s recent growth. Established the same year, Buckhorn Middle School is a Purple Star School offering support for military families through its partnership with the nearby Redstone Arsenal Base. Buckhorn High School students can explore future careers in Agriscience or Hospitality through the career and technical education program. After graduation, students can continue studying agriculture at Alabama A&M University just west of Ryland.Hike through fall foliage at Monte Sano State Park
Families meet up at the baseball fields on Shields Road to cheer on the Buckhorn Youth Little League throughout the year. Early spring brings thousands of hummingbirds to the tree-covered hiking trails and protected habitats at Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve. Neighborhood kids climb on the monkey bars and race down the slides at Monte Sano State Park’s spacious playscape. During the fall, locals can bike to the top of Monte Sano Mountain and enjoy breathtaking views of brightly colored foliage. When it’s just a bit too cold for a hike, residents meet up for spin classes at the 24/7 Health Club & Wellness Center.Boarhog’s Barbecue serves some of the best barbeque in town
Locals shop for homegrown produce at Ryland Pike Farmers Market or find everyday groceries at the Publix Supermarket in Winchester Plaza. After a trip to the store, shoppers can walk next door to pick up a pizza or sit down for dinner at Rafael’s Italian Restaurant. The local Starbucks and a few other fast food chains sit just across the street in the Walmart Supercenter parking lot. On the west side of the neighborhood, Bishop’s Eastside Pub & Grill is the local go-to for a casual drink after a long workday. Some of the best smoked barbecue and homemade banana pudding are served across the neighborhood at Boarhog’s Barbeque.
