Artists and first-time buyers find quirky haunts, flexible home options
It may only be three miles from downtown Huntsville, but West Huntsville has a groove all its own. Splashy murals, live blues and quirky shopping and entertainment hubs pulsate with “805” energy, so named for the 35805 zip code that covers West Huntsville. Newer residents live alongside neighbors who have been here for generations. While West Huntsville’s a great spot for newcomers looking for a variety of housing styles and price points, its rising popularity and new construction make it challenging for longtime residents to stay put. “It’s a very cool, hip, trendy and artsy area,” says Natasha Langford, a realtor with Coldwell Banker CK Mann Realty. A Huntsville native who’s been selling real estate here for five years, Langford says the area attracts a lot of younger professionals and first-time home buyers.
Karaoke and axe-throwing at Campus 805
West Huntsville’s hippest venues are old structures reinvented for today's interests and needs. Campus 805 is West Huntsville quirk at its best. What used to be Stone Middle School is now an idiosyncratic entertainment, dining and shopping hub that’s pure West Huntsville. Adults can relive school days without the rules, hitting the pool table, bar, arcade, and Karaoke bar. Axe-throwing is optional. Built on top of the century-old Martin Stove Factory, Stovehouse now pulses with eclectic live music, shopping and dining. Over 200 artists call Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment home. This former cotton mill’s theater, galleries, classes and concerts keep local art lovers busy year-round. Locals can grab groceries at the Walmart Neighborhood Market, Whole Foods, and the Walmart Supercenter all within two miles.
