Suburban enclave between Huntley Meadows, Fort Hunt and Alexandria
Hybla Valley, created from land once the site of dairy farms and a colonial estate, today boasts a diverse population and suburban conveniences amid its hilly landscape. It is a relatively affordable northern Virginia suburb with a retail center to its west and parks along the Fort Hunt waterfront to enjoy to the east. Heidi Burkhardt, longtime Fort Hunt local and Realtor with McEnearney Associates, says, “You have great proximity to DC, but you can also make your housing budget stretch further to get more house and land. The Fort Hunt area has a great micro market that’s still relatively affordable.”

Huntley Meadows Park, with Potomac River views in Fort Hunt
Martin Luther King Jr. Park features tennis courts, picnic tables, and a performance stage. It is also a place to dip in the seasonal community pool with two water slides and a kids’ wading area. Paul Spring Park, nestled along the Paul Springs Branch Trail and close to the Hollin Hills pool, is well-used and well-loved by nature lovers and dog walkers. Huntley Meadows Park, a reclaimed nature preserve and wildlife habitat with everything from a historic Federal-style house to a beaver-built walkway, was once land that was zoned for a large D.C. area airport; today, the park maintains trails for hiking and walking, provides birdwatching and nature photography opportunities and events like a frog symphony for adults and Pokemon Ranger for children. Half a mile east, residents can explore the outdoor activities in Fort Hunt. Burkhardt says, “There’s lots of great parks in the area along George Washington Parkway, the backbone of Fort Hunt that borders the Potomac River." The Walk to Bust Cancer is a mile-long walk around Fort Hunt Park to raise awareness and mindfulness regarding cancer, hosted on a morning in October. Residents can trek across Mount Vernon Trail and rest in the Collingwood Picnic Area while watching the sun rise over the Potomac.
