Around 20 miles east of Naples, Florida, lies the peaceful and aptly-named community of Rural Estates, which offers open countryside, an array of housing options, nearby conveniences and plenty of golf. “It’s a very fast-growing area, a very desirable area for people wanting large parcels of land and people who want affordable housing in communities with a lot of amenities,” says Debbie Seifert, a Naples-area Realtor with Amerivest Realty, who has been selling property for a decade.

Newly-construction developments
Growth in Rural Estates is most notable in the community’s housing. “It used to be all acreage plots out there, but what is happening is that a lot of developments are being built,” Seifert says. While older ranch and traditional-style homes on spacious lots remain common, there are also a large number of newly-built subdivisions with tiled-roof Mediterranean Revival-style townhomes, carriage house-style condos and modern single-family homes with hip roofs and bright stucco exteriors. Rural Estates home sizes range from 1,000 to 4,800 square feet, and list prices span from $350,000 to $5.5 million.

Concentration of top-rated schools
Nine Collier County public schools serving kindergarten through 12th-grade students are concentrated in Rural Estates; all receive a B rating or higher from Niche, including A-rated Corkscrew Elementary and Cypress Palm Middle, which earns a B-plus. Palmetto Ridge High School, which serves more than 2,200 students, receives an A-minus rating and offers career academies in construction/woodworking and culinary arts. This concentration of schools allows the community to remain relatively rural. “You still have a considerable amount of people who don’t want to be in town, so they choose the more rural areas,” Seifert says. “Plus, a lot of schools are close by, so they can stay on their parcels.” Nearby, well-rated schools and multi-acre lots aren't the only feathers in Rural Estates's cap. Its low CAP Index crime score of two out of 10 is another plus for the area.

Parks, wildlife sanctuaries and golf courses
Much of Rural Estates remains, well, rural. A large portion of the community is taken up by the Audubon Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, which spans more than 13,000 acres in the western Everglades and provides habitat for several endangered species, including the Florida panther, American alligator and Florida black bear. The nearby Bird Rookery Swamp delivers up to 12 miles of wildlife-filled trails, while on the other end of the outdoor recreation spectrum is Big Corkscrew Island Regional Park, with the largest playground in Collier County, a large community center that's home to afterschool programs and youth camps, and a sprawling aquatic complex with a pool pavilion and waterslides. Big Corkscrew Island Park is also the site of the community's annual family Easter egg hunt, where folks can enjoy food, music and games in addition to the big hunt. For golf enthusiasts, Rural Estates is home to private and public courses. Twin Eagles is a private community featuring custom homes built around two golf courses, while Bonita Bay East is a private country club with two golf courses in a natural setting where wildlife tends to roam amid fairways. Valencia Golf & Country Club provides a public option with a green, rolling 18-hole course amid peaceful lakes and shady trees, a full-service pro shop, a driving range and a bar.

Lest convenience is a concern; folks can find plenty of dining and shopping options in Rural Estates. Car dependent with some public transit
Given the community's rural aesthetic, it might be surprising to find several CAT - Collier Area Transit - bus stops near Rural Estate's Orange Tree area. However, most residents depend on their cars to travel further afield, like Fort Myers and Interstate 75 is around a 12-mile drive from the heart of Rural Estates.
