The intimate neighborhood of Indian Hills provides a quiet suburban feel, while also getting local favorites from three different areas. This charming spot is settled between Mundelein, Vernon Hills, and Long Grove, who all provide their own small-town amenities and big-box retailers.

When walking around the area, you’ll spot a diversity of homes in several subdivisions. These single-family subdivisions are made up with moderate to elaborate-sized homes. Most of these homes are accompanied by large well maintained front lawns with shamrock-green trees. Ranch and cottage-style homes carry nipped roofs and cul-de-sac driveways. Split-level properties and new traditional homes surround a neighborhood pond. Along Lily Court, you’ll discover an array of newly built custom homes. These homes catch the eyes of homebuyers with their spacious kitchens and four bedrooms. Homebuyers can snag homes for a lower price of $450,000, whereas the newer properties are hitting over $975,000.

Indian Hills residents are only a brief drive or walk to one of the several parks. Groups can host a field day cookout at Hartmann Park. This 10-acre property carries baseball fields, playgrounds, volleyball courts, a barbeque grill, and picnic spaces. A daily bike ride or stroll can be accomplished within the 1.5-mile trails at Grosse Pointe Park. You can continue your activity day by exploring the baseball fields, tennis, and basketball courts. If you like to fish, there’s also a small pond just south of the ball fields. Spend the day playing a quick nine holes at the Vernon Hills Golf Course. This course is ranked as one of the best nine-hole courses within the Chicago region.

Students can start at Hawthorn Elementary South, which holds an A on Niche. This school promotes teaching their students at elevated levels, and that attitude earned them the spot as a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School. Students then head off to Hawthorn Middle School South, which also carries an A Niche grade. This school offers 15 competitive sports and 24 extracurriculars as after-school activities. Diplomas can be earned from Vernon Hills High School, which earned top marks on Niche, having an A+ grade and being named #13 of their best public high schools lists in Illinois. This earning is from their diverse curriculum of AP courses, technical education, and consumer education.

Indian Hills is burrowed between Route 21 and Milwaukee Ave. Between these spaces, you’ll gather a melting pot of cuisines and dining options consisting of local favorites and national giants. Starting on Butterfield Rd, you’ll find Zocalo Mexican Bar and Grill, where you can devour the classic Mexican dishes of tacos, empanadas, and quesadillas. Settled on US Route 45, which runs diagonal through the neighborhood, is Garden Berry Café, which offers over 150 homemade breakfast and lunch dishes daily.

Aside from the restaurants, these routes carry several shopping plazas with national stores catering to any need. Rivertree Court Shopping Plaza houses Five Below, Old Navy, Michaels, and TJ Maxx. Other national and local spots can be located within the Hawthorn Mall just a few miles northeast. Shoppers can enjoy the products of over 40 stores, including Bath & Body Works, Claire’s, and Macy’s, to name a few spots. For those colder months, the mall is home to an AMC, Dave and Buster’s, The Painted Penguin and Hi-Five Sports Zone.

The Vernon Hills Metra Station is less than a two-mile drive for locals. Once you hop on the train, you’re only an hour's ride to the city. Any amenity you could need is somewhere close to Indian Hills.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
