Like its neighboring communities in the southwestern Charlotte region, Indian Land, South Carolina, is amid a bustling growth period. “Indian Land is an extension of eastern Fort Mill and the south Ballantyne area of Charlotte, and it’s exploded,” says Realtor Robert MacLeod of Boston MacLeod Realty, who specializes in greater Charlotte. “At one time, it was a very quiet area, but now, because of the expansion and growth in the Charlotte area, it’s become a very popular area.” New residential communities, restaurants and shopping centers have proliferated in recent decades along Highway 521, which runs through Indian Land’s center. Today, this once-sleepy section of Lancaster County is home to well over 20,000 people.
21st Century Charlotte homes.
Some houses in Indian Land were built long before its recent renaissance, including several brick ranch-style homes from the mid-20th century. However, most of its homes didn’t come along until the 21st century. Winding sidewalks connect Craftsman townhouses, ramblers, Colonials and 2020s transitional designs in dense subdivisions. Perhaps most prominent among these communities is Sun City, where the 18-hole Carolina Lakes golf course weaves between some of the area’s largest, most expensive houses. Indian Land homebuyers can spend up to $1.8 million on a four-bedroom, newly constructed, Tudor-style Millennial Mansion. Meanwhile, townhouses start in the high $200,000s, which might buy a three-bedroom abode nearing 1,400 square feet.
Many of the newer communities in Indian Land feature new traditional style homes.
