Trendy retail hub formerly home to a governor, automakers and the Pacers
Cole-Noble has played multiple roles in Indianapolis history, including its current turn as an increasingly popular mix of retail and residential. The neighborhood has transformed regularly. Originally the farm of 19th-century Indiana Governor Noah Noble, it became an industrial neighborhood where the Cole Motor Car Company manufactured luxury cars from 1909-25. In the last quarter of the 20th century, the Indiana Pacers called the neighborhood’s Market Square Arena home. And an increasing number of residents have made Cole-Noble home since Market Square was demolished in 2001.

One of Indy's most vibrant dining scenes
“Cole-Noble has grown rapidly in the last decade, and has become rather trendy,” says Mark Easley, co-owner of the neighborhood’s Easley Winery. “We’ve seen it grow from an industrial area, where at 5 p.m. businesses closed and the streets went dark, to a hip residential community with a great nightlife scene.” Easley Winery, which was Indiana’s first winery when it opened in 1974, has witnessed the transformation. Across the street, Sun King Brewery has two dozen different beers and seltzers on tap. Parlor Public House is a coffee shop that transitions to a cocktail lounge after 5 p.m. Vida — Indy's only AAA Four-Diamond restaurant — features four-course meals as well as vegan and vegetarian tasting menus. Thanks to Whole Foods and Needler’s Fresh Market, it’s also possible to shop for groceries without leaving the neighborhood.
Easley Winery offers tastings, a wine garden, and Saturday reggae in the summer.
Vida is one of the few restaurants in Indianapolis to earn AAA’s coveted Four Diamond award.

Flanked by I-70, downtown
Cole-Noble is one of Indy’s most convenient neighborhoods, flanked by downtown to the west and Interstate 70 to the east. “People take walks to coffee shops during the day and enjoy the city parks,” Easley says. “There’s everything you need as a downtown resident here.” IndyGo’s No. 21 bus runs through the neighborhood. For those heading out of town, Indianapolis International Airport is 15 miles away, and Indy’s Amtrak station is just a mile from the neighborhood.
A short trip to Pacers games and other downtown events
When the Pacers left Market Square Arena, they didn’t go far. Gainbridge Fieldhouse, also home to the WNBA’s Fever, is about a half mile from the neighborhood. Lucas Oil Stadium and Victory Field are each a mile away. Gainbridge and Lucas Oil also host concerts for major touring acts. Lucas Oil, home of the NFL’s Colts, is the final American stop on Taylor Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour.
Lucas Oil Stadium hosts many conferences and is home to the Indianapolis Colts.
The Old National Centre is a multi-purpose theater that hosts a variety of popular shows.
