Cole-Noble is a happening neighborhood in downtown Indy
Cole-Noble was once an industry-heavy area of Indianapolis, but today it’s a dynamic downtown neighborhood with a mix of retail and residential. The walkable neighborhood has some great spots to grab a bite or a drink, and nightlife on Massachusetts Avenue is just a few blocks away. Young professionals are close to major employers like Lilly, Elevance Health and Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance. And even though most folks live in condos or apartments, the Cole-Noble Neighborhood Association brings neighbors together for events like the Annual Spring Celebration and a summer block party.

A growing hub for bars, breweries and late‑night hangouts
The neighborhood has grown over the last decade and has quickly become a trendy area with wine bars, taprooms and cocktail lounges. “We’ve seen it grow from an industrial area, where at 5 p.m. businesses closed and the streets went dark, to a hip residential community with a great nightlife scene,” says Mark Easley, co-owner of the neighborhood’s Easley Winery. Some other neighborhood favorites include:
Parlor Public House, a coffee shop by day that transforms into a cocktail lounge by night
Sun King Brewery, a long-time staple headquartered in the neighborhood with more than 30 beverages on tap
Vida, a fine dining option and Indy’s only AAA Four Diamond Award-winning restaurant
The Great Divide, a low-key dive bar and restaurant with a laid-back patio
Mako Dab Bar, a welcoming “THC tavern” and dispensary in a former church
Even more nightlife is just a few blocks away on Massachusetts Avenue, or just Mass Ave to locals. You can walk to 16-Bit Bar and Arcade, which has more than 35 free-to-play vintage arcade games, or grab a slice at Bazbeaux, a beloved pizza shop.
Easley Winery offers tastings, a wine garden and Saturday concerts in the summer and winter.
Vida is one of the few restaurants in Indiana to earn AAA’s coveted Four Diamond award.

Small layouts appeal to renters, first‑timers and young professionals
The concrete landscape is studded with apartments, condos and townhouses. Most people rent, and it’s rare for homes to hit the market. Recent sales range from $225,000 for a one-bedroom condo to around $750,000 for a three-bedroom. “You’re not getting really large footprints, so your configurations are going to be sub-2,000 square feet,” says Timothy Birky, a Realtor with F.C. Tucker Company and a resident of nearby Chatham Arch. “That might be too small for an empty nester,” Birky says, “but it could be first-time buyers or young professionals. But it’s all a bit of a mix downtown.” Most buildings have their own parking garages, and street parking can be competitive.

Sports venues, parks and the Cultural Trail are close by
Sports fans are just a few blocks from Gainbridge Fieldhouse, home to the Pacers and the WNBA’s Fever, and the Colts’ Lucas Oil Stadium. You’re also within a 10-minute walk from concerts and performances at the Old National Centre. Bikers can hop on the Cultural Trail, which threads Indy’s cultural districts together. If you’re looking for greenspace, there’s a few nearby options:
The Heart of Cummins Green, a public green space next to Cummins Inc.
Richard Lugar Plaza, which has trails, picnic tables and a free dog park
University Park, an urban park with statues and a large fountain
White River State Park, which includes the Indianapolis Zoo, Everwise Amphitheater and the Canal Walk

How a former car factory anchors a major neighborhood revival
Cole-Noble’s industrial roots include the Cole Motor Company, which built luxury cars in the neighborhood in the early 1900s. The company closed in 1925, and the building was used as a county jail in the mid-1990s. Now the former car factory is getting a new lease on life with an $84 million redevelopment project. The mixed-use building will have over 200 apartments plus 30,000 square feet of space for shops, restaurants and other perks. “That’s a project that’s been in the works for a while,” Birky says.
Walk, bike or bus around downtown with fast routes to major employers
You can easily walk or bike to bars, coffee shops and city parks, but there’s also a handful of IndyGo bus stops. Indy’s Amtrak station is a mile away. “If someone is living downtown and traveling somewhere else, you have immediate access to I-65 and I-70,” Birky says. “If you have people working at the large companies like Eli Lilly or Elevance Health or Farm Bureau [Insurance], that’s really nice. That’s a really short commute.”
Nearby nightlife, traffic and downtown events can make some areas noisy in the evenings. A long-standing figure in Cole-Noble is Wheeler Mission, a non-denominational, Christian social services organization that has served Indy for more than 125 years and offers support for people experiencing homelessness.

Local events through the neighborhood association
Apartment buildings and multifamily communities often have their own get-togethers, and the Cole-Noble Neighborhood Association organizes larger events like the Annual Spring Celebration, an evening of local entertainment and food. The summer block party has live music, food trucks and activities for all ages. Easley Winery puts on a free concert series, and Sun King Brewery regularly has events.
